These are pictures of my Grandmother "GG" making her last batches of Green Tomato Relish. She's passing the tradition on to me. Most, it sees, go to the Internet for information and often friendship. I'm so thankful to have a GG who has knowledge and  desire to teach me.

Her Green Tomato Relish is famous among family and friends. We add it to Chicken Salad, Potato Salad, hamburgers and sandwiches.

Thanks for being my kitchen inspiration, GG. Your so fun to Team Up with.

You are so blessed to have a Grandmother to spend time with.It has to be wonderful to spend time with her in the kitchen as she shares her skills/recipes with you.The time spent together has to be wonderful for each of you;a treasure you will always be able to keep. I never had the benefit of knowing grandparents so I am envious of the wonderful time you are getting to share. It makes me so very happy to know that you are getting to have this time with your GG. Blessings, Mel

My maternal grandmother always made caramel corn at Christmastime and I loved to help her make it. She would make GIANT batches of it and I can remember helping her air-pop the popcorn, delighting in the foaming action when she stirred the baking soda into the caramel sauce, and helping her stir the caramel and walnuts into the popcorn...then helping her watch the clock so she could stir it every 15 minutes while it baked in the oven. If we stuck around to help her through the entire day, we were rewarded with a small bag of caramel corn to take home with us and enjoy before Christmas. Everyone else had to wait until Christmas Eve to get theirs! She passed away almost 5 years ago on October 1st. I will forever cherish the memory of making caramel corn with her as a child.

Never cooked with Mum (what we called grandma) but she was a hell of a cook. I remember her fresh bread, how wonderful it was coming out of the over. Sadly after she passed an I commented about her wonderful homemade bread my mother informed me that it was frozen Bridgeford bread. It would have been easier if she would have just taken a mallet over my head! I didnt want to know that!Grrr. She also always had boxes of Sees candy stached away all over the house.

My Omi is 86 and I make many of her old world recipes. Because my sons have 2 grandmothers and one great grandmother they call her Perogi Omi, she is well known for making Cabbage perogies. Every time I make her recipes I always think it isn't as good as hers but my husband assures me it is. I guess in my mind she is a mythical cook :)

You are lucky to still have a grandmother who is able to cook and mentor you. I remember when my mom became the grandmother who mentored my kids. I'm still passing skills on to my children, too. One thing that stopped in my grandmother's line is the making of green tomato relish--my mom never made it, and I haven't been satisfied with the recipes I've tried! But, we do have one recipe that says, "Grandma", and that is Plum Pudding!

The most precious memories I have are of helping my grandmother make Christmas cookies. We made sugar cookies and molasses cookies. I got to help cut them out with the cookie cutters and then decorate with sprinkles and dragees. I make those cookies by myself now-- my grandmother's been gone for many years-- and I can feel her presence in the kitchen at my side. If there is one recipe that really brings her to my mind, it would be Lemon Angel Pie... and Steamed Carrot Pudding with Hard Sauce. No one in the family could match my grandmother's baking! I really miss her.

Well as the others have said, you are the lucky one to still have her in your life and completely cabable of functioning. I never got to cook with any of my grandmothers at all. When I moved to the States as a young girl, the one grandmother I had that would have cooked with me was in Israel. The other one didn't cook. My own mother died when she was in her early 50's so she never got to share that experience with her grandchildren. I have become the matriarch in my family and cook(ed) with my kids. I am just hoping to have the opportunity to do so with grandchildren someday. I have a lot to share.

My "cooking with grandma" experiences were actually cooking with a community of grandmas in my early marriage. I was the city girl moving into the rural world. The country cooks opened their kitchens to me and taught me things about canning. Took me on REAL field trips to gather everything from "poke" for poke salad to peanuts and okra. I love this post. Sentimental? No. Just straight up lovely.

I remember making bread with my 'Baba' and spending hours asking her what she was doin. She had an old remedy for everything. After I got married I called her daily asking for remedies, cooking tips, etc. My favorite call was ME- Baba how do you make saurkraute? Baba- grind cabbage, put in crockpot, add salt until it tastes salty, but you don't taste salt (that's not a typo and Baba still has a good mind about her), press down in crock, place dinner plate on top, find a rock in the field, wash well, place ontop of plate. Me- huh??? The first batch of saurkraute was a flop. But I have been making it for 15 years now without fail. I still have my rock that sits in the crock pot when not in use. I send my Baba fresh canned pickles and preserves every year-she is my inspiration and I luv her very much.

The favorite thing for us to do w/ Grandma was make taffy. I'll always remember pulling it in her kitchen. She was a gem - so patient with us - give your granny a hug for me!

How wonderful to share this time with your grandmother! My Nana was 100 years old when she died and I have many good kitchen memories of her. The relish looks great!
