Garbanzo Beans by the #10

Today I finally opened my # 10 can (6lb 12oz) of Garbanzo beans. I’ve tested two recipes and now my high-powered vita-mix went capote. It will start working again, but needs about 30 minutes to cool off.

I tested Hummus III. It’s a flavorful recipe, but my son who loves hummus didn’t like it. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s a bit to lemony. Or it could be that he’s two and his tastes randomly change.

One piece of information I really wanted to find out was how many cups of beans are in a #10 size can. Why?  It’s a very helpful piece of information when writing recipes for Team Up cooks. Bulk ingredients are the way Team Up cooks save money.

So now I know. A #10 size can holds 13 cups of Garbanzo beans.

Four people could Team Up and make a recipe that called for 3 cups of Garbanzo beans. Fudge a little with ingredients and each person go home from the party with about 3 ¼ cup of hummus.  If  your Vita-Mix motor will hold out.

There are several recipes on AR for roasted chickpeas that you could try for something different from hummus. Throw them into chili, bean salads, veggie soup, goulash, etc.

I really like this one - very few ingredients, yet so tasty. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Espinacas-con-Garbanzos-Spinach-with-Garbanzo-Beans/Detail.aspx

The Meditarranean Chickpea Salad is good. I also like the mock tuna salad recipes--they make great sandwich spreads! I don't know if I will be quantity cooking any time soon, but it's nice to know about the 13 cups of beans!
