Ginger-Peach Jam

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2013
This is absolutely fantastic. It would've been helpful to know how many jelly jars this makes, but its really never an exact science anyway. For me, I multiplied the recipe by 5 and ended up with 31 jars of jam. (Good thing it turned out to be such a great jam!) I will say that it is the best jam I have ever tasted, not just made! The only thing I tweaked was that I put in a bit less suger, just as the recipe suggested. Other than that, don't change a thing. Another note - I put the crystallized ginger in teh food processer and ended up with a gooey lump. It melted once I brought it to a boil, but its probably better to hand chop this.

Tomato Harvest Marinara Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2013
The taste was nice, but I am giving this 2 stars because the amount it yields is way off, unless the sauce is supposed to be super thin. And after checking other recipes, this one just doesn't add up. Tomato sauce will average about 6-7 lbs of tomatoes per quart. Anyway, nice sauce but it was a lot of work for a much smaller yield than I was expecting!

Chocolate Frozen Yogurt

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2013
I took the suggestions of the review rated "most helpful" and decreased the sugar to 1-4 cup and added 2 tbsps of cocoa. I think this was a mistake because it had a pretty bitter cocoa taste. I think the next time I will make it, I will either stick with the recipe as written, or decrease teh sugar to 1/2 cup and add 1 tbsp of cocoa and see if that's better. So I am rating this a 4-star because I think the recipe is much better than what I did to it!

Very Chocolate Ice Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2013
This custard was velvety, buttery, and rich. The only thing I did differently was I took other reviewers' advice and was VERY careful about tempering the eggs. I took the saucepan with the cocoa/sugar mixture and stuck it in a sink of ice for a few minutes before SLOWLY adding the eggs. The only other step I did that wasn't listed was that I used a strainer as I poured my cooled mixture in the ice cream maker. It firmed up beautifully!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
Warning: this is for chocolate lovers! So I loved it, but the glaze does make it even richer, so if you don't want ooey, gooey chocolate overload, maybe leave that off. I made it exactly as the recipe says and it was amazing! Except I did add a splash of milk to the frosting - I had the same chocolate sawdust issue.

Bread Machine Bagels

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
Amazing. This was actually less time consuming than the recipe sounds, and my bagels turned out delicious. I did take a reviewer's advice on making 12 bagels instead of the 9 the recipe calls for, but I found this made 12 small bagels, so I recommend sticking with 9. Five stars!!!

Pizza Crust for the Bread Machine II

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2011
Delicious. A little harder to work with than what I am used to, but I usually make a thin crust so that's probably the difference. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside - perfect!

Banana Cream Pie III

Reviewed: May 2, 2010
This was a huge hit. I did add a little lemon juice to the bananas to keep them from browning. But the chunks of bananas under the filling was delicious!

Stuffed Green Peppers I

This is very tomato-ey. I think one can of soup would do the trick, instead of two!

Crock Pot Portobello Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
This was honestly inedible. I followed the recipe to a tee, but the mushrooms just soaked up the acidity of the dressing, and it was incredibly bitter. We took about 4 bites and threw the whole pot out.

Red Currant Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
I have a bunch of currant bushes, and have been letting them fall off the bush, because I just don't know what to do with them. Well this year, I decided to harvest them and find something to do with them, and this recipe will be an annual event! I doubled the meringue as someone suggested, and just used a ready-made pie crust. And it turned out delicious and beautiful!
