About this Cook
Ive been cooking since I was about 8 years old. I started out helping my busy working mom to cook dinner for a family of 5 (that actually ate like a family of 7). I love cooking, especially when I have an evening off. My favorite thing is to scope out the fridge or freezer and then check out recipes that use some of the ingredients I already have. Although I use recipes from other people, I seldom find myself leaving the recipe exactly the same.... I can't resist experimenting just a little, especially when it comes to food my hubby will eat because he loves things spicy.
My favorite things to cook
I love sweets, but its not realistic in my day to day life to limit myself to cooking sweets only. I love any recipe that can take something that usually is unappealing in one way or another and make it absolutely delicious, such as a tough cut of meat, marinated and slow cooked until it falls apart. That's just art and mojo and good stuff all wrapped up in one.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Has to be our tres leche cake. It took us a good long time to perfect our recipe on this one. there were plenty of "so-so" and "ok" attempts before we started getting any good results. But I'm sorry, this recipe stays in the family... no sharing on the 'net.
My cooking triumphs
Goes with the above... the infamous day we finally got the tres leche right. it was spectacular. melted in your mouth and the cake absorbed every drop of the liquid. DE-Lish
My cooking tragedies
a sad attempt at croquettes...turned out like hockey pucks

Orangey Turkey Legs
As I didn't have any mandarin oranges on hand, i used the OJ and marmalade substitute, as others recommended. As for the reviews that claim it was "bland", these are also the ones that left out the oil!! of course it was bland!! as with ANY marinade, it MUST have some form of fat... the fat is what carries the FLAVOR! you mustn't change a recipe, then claim the recipe is no good. Mine came out spectacularly.

Strawberry Brownies
I followed the recipe exactly as stated, only adding about a 1/4 cup of chocolate syrup to the mix.. came out amazing. crispy on top, soft and moist underneath with bits of sweet strawberry. As a side note, i had to cook mine for close to 43 mins to get it to the right consistency using an 8x8 square glass pan

Simple Beef Short Ribs
this was an amazing recipe! the only changes I made were to, after browning meat, add to crock pot and cook on high for five hours (after which, the meat literally fell off the bones! yum!) and I quadrupled the recipe amount... and had just enough for 4 people! I used some of the liquid to make a great gravy and the remaining liquid i used the next day for a french onion soup. Just add croutons and some swiss and provolone and broil till browned. All in all, a great tasting and No-waste meal, just be sure to adjust for how many people will be eating, and it's perfect.
