my first crepes!
About this Cook
I am a California girl stuck in Alabama with my wonderful fiance who has spent almost 8 years in the Army and is currently in flight school. So I spend my time practicing my southern cooking and impressing our friends with the goodies I whip up! Occasionally I document my creations and experiments on my blog: toobusyplanning.blogspot.com
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE baking. I hadn't really started cooking until I got my first apartment years ago and slowly but surely I am becoming more adventurous. Luckily, my fiance will eat anything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Grandma is a whiz in the kitchen and I remember always helping her out when we visited but she is also very strict. So many times my she would make something delicious and I'd ask to lick the bowl, but was never allowed to! Now whenever I am making a dessert I always finish off the bottom of the bowl, take that Grandma :)
My cooking triumphs
Making a wonderful Lemon Meringue that my fiance swore I bought, and still talks about.
My cooking tragedies
After having some delicious black bread at an Irish pub I went on the hunt for my own recipe. I though I had found a good one (not on AR, don't worry) and I was so proud of myself. I even went out my way to find a health food store where I could get Rye flour (Alabama doesn't even have wheat flour at the grocery store!!). In the end, the recipe made way too many cute little steak house black bread loaves that were as hard as a rock and tasted even worse. It was the first thing even my fiance wouldn't eat...and the only creation I've ever thrown away!

Sour Cream Chocolate Frosting
This is delicious! Much more rich and smooth than your normal chocolate frosting made with cocoa powder. I took Renee's suggestion and didn't use all of the sugar - I ended up using almost 2 cups and it's still very sweet and a great consistency. This is my new go-to chocolate frosting recipe!!

Barbeque Chicken
This was wonderful! I followed some other reviewer's advice to doubled the recipe (not the water) and used 6 boneless skinless chicken thighs. I also added a tablespoon of honey and a pinch of cayenne pepper. I turned the temp down to 375 instead of 300 and only let them cook covered for about 20 mins at that temp. They were perfect. My fiance LOVED them and was baffled as to how I made my own BBQ sauce. This one is going in my recipe binder!

Blonde Brownies I
These were okay, however I won't make them again. They are very sweet and very rich but since they are neither a brownie nor a cookie they leave you wanting something more. Edible, but definitely not worth it.
