I've touched on this topic in the past, but I want to touch on it again... how I've begun to actually enjoy vegetables. I have to say, I am pretty proud of myself. A year and a half ago my diet  (and when I say diet, I don't mean DIET, I mean what I ate on a daily basis, I don't believe in… MORE

Wow - its been awhile huh?  Life has gotten in the way of most of my cooking time :o( . Meals have been fast - and my mom has been doing a lot of the work.  But we've still been able to keep it healthy - simply by focusing on how many vegetables we can get on the table per meal! Its actually… MORE

Over the past week I've been experimenting with smoothies that include veggies - and while I haven't gone all out in my experiments, I made some good finds!!! What you will need: Some type of blender (I use a magic bullet for a single serving, its the perfect size) Spinach or Kale Kefir… MORE

Up until about 9 months ago, I was anti-salad. I prided myself on never being "that girl" who will only order a salad out to dinner. I just didn't like them. Which worked out for my salad-loving boyfriend who usually got 2 salads whenever we'd go out to dinner. But something changed.. MORE

I avoided a disaster today! Maybe I'm exaggerating... but still.. Dinner tonight was simple - all things that you put together than just let cook, with very little to no attention required.  On the menu: Honey-Baked Lentils (from More with Less Cookbook) over Brown Rice with… MORE

I really need to get organized, in terms of cooking. That way my mom and I can share the responsibilities with greater ease. My schedule can change any minute so I need to keep her up to date with what I plan to cook so she can take over if I cannot cook. Here are our goals: 1. Eat… MORE

I feel like its been SO LONG since I REALLY cooked. Of course I have cooked here and there, but over the past month or two, it hasn't been much. There were a few factors: being busier with my life's passion and career was one - which threw off my schedule... I need to figure out a more… MORE

Tonight was a huge success. I was trying two brand new (to us) veggies - and we like both of them!!! First was Kale - I decided to make Kale Chips as I don't think my family is ready to try it any other way - and I am not brave enough. LOL. I don't really like bitter veggies, but I kn MORE

Since I feel that a lot of people in AR community are trying to lose weight, cut out meat, or just eat healthier, I figured I would share some of my recent vegetarian findings!! I am also trying to use in season vegetables, which in turn forces me to try new vegetables that I like! So that… MORE

I haven't been posting menus because my weeks have been crazy and I usually have to skip something or move dishes around... and... as crazy as this sounds, I feel more guilty about doing so if I've already posted what I will be making. lol. I know this is silly, but whatever. Anyway...… MORE

About Me
I'm 25 years old, living at home with my parents and my sister who recently graduated from college. I have an amazing boyfriend who LOVES FOOD. I'm out of work right now, since the job market is rough right now I have decided that I will use this time to learn how to cook. My parents, sister, and sometimes my boyfriend are my guinea pigs for new recipes; they (usually) enjoy them and luckily we haven't had to throw any out and order pizza lol. I'm always looking for simple, but delicious dishes that I will still have time to make once I go back to work.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a very picky eater, so really anything that I actually end up liking!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is an excellent baker so most of them revolve around that (raisin bread for Thanksgiving/Christmas is one of my faves).
My cooking triumphs
Anything that everyone in my house enjoys (we all have very different tastes).
My cooking tragedies
In high school, my sister and I decided to cook dinner for ourselves one weekend when my parents weng away; we tried to make mashed potatoes. After we baked them (in the microwave probably, and probably not for long enough) we chopped them up and put them in a bowl with some milk and butter. We tried to mash them with the hand mixer, but they were so hard that they didn't mash very well. We ended up with what I would describe as a potato-soup like liquid with hard chunks of potatoes.
