I am the wife of a Baptist Pastor I love spending time playing with our grandchildren and helping with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team, My husband and I love to be involved in the community. We have three children 2 daughters and 1 son and five grandchildren. I love to garden and spend a lot of time in the spring and summer outside.
My favorite things to cook
Anything in a slow cooker that I don't have to fuss over except during the Christmas holidays when I love to get extravagant for our open house and I also like to make candy to deliver to neighbors and friends.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ever since I married my husband we have had a tradition of having tamales on Christmas day. That is something his family always did and now it has become a tradition in our family.
My cooking triumphs
I guess my greatest triumph was winning first place at our county contest for my peach cobbler and one of the judges commenting to me that it brought back memories of his mothers peach cobbler. (I have a secret ingredient that I use to make it taste more peachy and juicy). I think that is the best compliment anyone could have ever paid me.
My cooking tragedies
When my husband and I first married I was not a cook, but I did put forth my best effort. One night I decided to make biscuits and cream gravy with mashed potatoes for supper(because that was one of his favorites) and when I set them on the table he spooned out the gravy and poured the mashed potatoes over the top. The gravy was so clumpy he had mistaken it for the mashed potatoes and the mashed potatoes were so runny it was mistaken for the gravy. We still have a great laugh about it today 27 years later.
