Mom's Sushi Rice

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2011
I was looking for something to make with hawaiian pulled pork and found this recipe. It's amazing! I didn't have sushi rice, so I made it with another short grain starchy rice and it turned out perfectly. I also didn't make it with the konbu, but it turned out just like the sticky rice I've had in so many hawaiian restaurants. Thanks for the great recipe!

Vegan Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2011
I made these yesterday for breakfast and they were amazing! I realized I didn't have eggs after I had already promised pancakes to the family. I made them with fat free milk, and I substituted 1/2 cup of all purpose flower with whole wheat flower. And just to try it out I added cinnamon, nutmeg, Ginger, and cardamom. They turned out fantastic! A great base recipe for egg free pancakes!

Creamy Lemon Squares

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2011
I made these the other day and oh my goodness! We couldn't stop eating them! Though I did make the crust with graham cracker since I don't like nilla wafers. They were so good, even though they were a little undercooked. I'm making them again tomorrow =]

Ooey-Gooey Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
I just made these and they're alright. I did what other reviewers suggested and didn't melt the butter for the inside of the rolls, but did for the caramel sauce and they wound up being soggy on the bottom and crunchy on the top. Next time I won't melt any of the butter and hopefully they turn out better. Still delicious, just the wrong texture. Also, I'm contemplating making these in the style of cinnamon rolls.

Quick Jambalaya

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2011
I made this for dinner for my southern husband and he LOVES it! If he hadn't been home when I made it he would've been convinced it took me all day. It comes close to real Jambalaya, and is a great substitute when time is an issue.

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2011
This is an amazing recipe! The only thing I changed is used 1 cup shortening and 1 cup butter, and since I didn't have any clear vanilla extract I used Almond extract and it made all the difference! I used this to frost cupcakes that I took to work and EVERYONE went nuts over the frosting!

Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
I did what a couple other reviewers have done and put the oatmeal in the blender first and ground it into almost a powder and then added the ingredients. I didn't use as many strawberries, and instead used frozen raspberries. I also used frozen banana and added 1.5 heaping tablespoons of soy protein powder. It's good, just VERY thick and I think next time I'm going to cut the oatmeal in half. Great recipe!

Banana Cranberry Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
I really love this recipe! It's a great base muffin recipe. When I made them I couldn't tell if I liked the cranberry's or not. I think they were just too sweet for me. I love the banana though! Greatest banana muffin recipe ever!

Gnocchi in Fontina Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2010
I followed the sauce recipe to a T, and I wound up with sauce, with a giant cheese ball in the middle. The only reason I'm even upset about it is that the cheese I used was VERY expensive, and just wish it had at least turned out. Thankfully the sauce that the cheese ball was in was still pretty tasty. Needless to say I won't be making any more cheese sauces in the near future.

French Apple Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2010
I'm not rating this fairly because I don't know what went wrong with mine. I made it a few weeks ago and couldn't figure out what went wrong. The bottom was basically soup, and the top was burnt bread. Anyone have any ideas to what went wrong??

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2010
I made this a while ago for my dog, my mom's dog, and my brother-in-law's two dogs. (3 of them weigh less than 15 lbs and the other is a BIG lab) I doubled the recipe, and while it looked like a lot of treats, it was just the right amount. I made them in the shape of little gingerbread men and the dogs loved them! And I loved that they didn't make my house smell funky! =]

Easy Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2010
This is my new fast and easy pie crust recipe. It's definitely not the real thing, but it's still great. I've used it to make an apple strudel pie and it was great. Thanks for the great recipe.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
I had some trouble with the first couple I made, but with reviews like this (and a weird obsession with apple pie) I couldn't just let it go that easily. I like an apple pie that sticks together when sliced, and this pie didn't stick together for me at all. I finally figured it out, tapioca. I now just add 2 tablespoons of tapioca to the sauce mixture and it comes out thick, gooey, and perfect! Great recipe! Thanks for sharing!

Mom's Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2010
The only reason I didn't give this a better rating is because I haven't tasted it yet. It's in the oven now and my house smells amazing! It looks delicious and I can't wait. It did make way more than enough so I just put the remainder in a loaf pan and it's in the oven as well. This pie is also much more presentable than a "pie-in-a-can" pie. I just checked it and hated that I had to stick a knife in the middle of it! My pies usually crack but not this one! EDIT:I'm making this pie for a second time today because the first one was that amazing. I'm making this one for a friend (we're trading a pumpkin roll for a pumpkin pie) and I'm making another one for my family tonight. It's fantastic! The only thing I didn't enjoy last time was that the pumpkin layer was too thin (my crust was just way too thick). Also instead of using ginger and cloves I used 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg and a whole teaspoon of cinnamon. FABULOUS!

PHILADELPHIA 3-STEP Lemon Cheesecake Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
VERY EASY!! And very good, but I did make changes. I made them in a cupcake tin, and instead of coconut macaroons I used graham crackers, and unlike traditional graham cracker crusts I left out the sugar because it can make the crust a little gritty in texture. I also used reduced fat cream cheese, and since I don't have anything fine enough to remove zest I just used the juice from a large lemon. They turned out GREAT and they're still warm. The only problem I found is that they crack very easily and if I was to serve them at any sort of even I would make a strawberry topping to hide the cracks.
