Syracuse Salt Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2010
first, i want to say thank you for the recipe. I've never measured in terms of cups, it's always been a quarter pound of salt to every pound of potatoes. For all the people saying that these are regular boiled potatoes, they are too salty, not salty enough, etc.. the purpose of the salt is not so much to make the potatoes salty as it is to lower the boiling point of the water. With the different boiling point, it makes the flesh of the potato creamier than normal boiling and less starchy. As for the saltiness/needs salt problem, you may need to adjust the amount of water that you use. It doesn't specify in the recipe, but for this amount of salt and potatoes, you need 3 quarts of water. If you aren't using enough, you might as well eat the salt shaker and skip the potatoes

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2010
When I first read all the reviews, I was afraid to try this, but I gave it a whirl anyway. I sifted all the flour and I mixed all the dry ingredients with a whisk to make it lighter. I creamed the butter and brown sugar until it was lighter in color, then added eggs and bananas.. I mixed the wet into the dry using my whisk until it was just incorporated.. I made muffins using a large muffin tin. Oh my heck, these were delicious.. Light fluffy little pieces of Heaven. I ended up with 9 costco-sized muffins and once they cooled, I glazed them with a vanilla glaze. Thanks Shelley, these were awesome!

Quick and Easy Pancit

Reviewed: May 9, 2010
Growing up, I called my mom's pancit panshi... anyway, you get the picture.. i never liked the stuff.. until now. I made this recipe for my mom and she is a convert. She actually made this the other day and almost cried because it's the first time in 20 years i've eaten pancit she has made. Thanks Heather!

Thai Ground Chicken Basil

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2010
I don't usually rate a recipe until I've made it as written, however I had to post. I just got through making and eating this dish and it was spectacular. I didn't have the thai chilis so I used about 2 tsp of sriracha... it was amazing. I served over buckwheat noodles... this is going in my recipe box!

Baked Ziti with Sausage

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
I'm making this now and I came back to the recipe to double check the oven temp. I just realized that I added a LOT more ricotta than is called for.. I bought a 1lb15 oz package instead of the 15oz package. It looks good though so I'll update when it's finished.. **update** this was very good.. since i accidentally doubled the cheese it was a little bland, so i added the other half jar of sauce and some red pepper flake.. talk about good! very saucy, but we like that in our house.. at least we do now haha

Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2010
Okay, I just had to rate this... I was at Kroger and they had picnic hams on sale (8lb ham for $6 woohoo) so i picked one up to make for my boyfriend.. I HATE ham but we make sacrifices for loved ones lol Anyhoo, I found this recipe and it sounded easy enough.. oh my heck, it was amazing... i work 12 hr shifts and was afraid it would overcook, so i put it on when i went to bed and it was ready when i awoke. It smelled so good that I decided to taste it. As I sit here writing this, I am eating ham and eggs. Thank you LittleMsTxThang, you have made me a ham enjoyer.. wouldn't say lover just yet Btw, I added pineapple juice like some others suggested and then reduced the juices to a syrup to serve over ham fried rice

Deviled Eggless Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
This is a good recipe, but the name is misleading.. if you have egg allergies, mayo has eggs. i bought extra tofu and made tofu mayo from this site.. taste wise, it is good.

Seasoned Fan Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
Very good! I had some whole, boiled russets on hand (leftover from making potato salad), so I just sliced them a little thicker then the recipe called for, added the other ingredients, and baked them until heated through. I don't know how raw potatoes would be, but the baked boiled potatoes were awesome! I was able to "fan" the potatoes a little more to get the seasonings further down and since the potato was boiled, it absorbed more of the butter than just running down into the pan. Thanks Tressa!

PHILADELPHIA® New York Cheesecake II

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
This is an excellent cheesecake! Instead of one cake, I used a muffin pan. Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful. To the person who commented about the crack and bad taste... a crack means you either cooked too long or at too high a tempature... as for the bad taste, the only way it could have tasted bad is if the ingredients were possibly expired? Otherwise, I can't see how this can be described as "bad"... 1 million stars :)

BREAKSTONE'S Classic Cheesy Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
This is easy and delicious. I usually don't substitute the first time I try the recipe, but I didn't have any Ritz crackers. I did, however, have a can of French's french fried onions left over from Thanksgiving.. Oh my heck! This was fantastic... I don't know how it would be with the Ritz but I imagine it would still be outstanding.

Mother's Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
This was very good. I didn't have any tomato sauce, so I used a can of italian diced tomatoes with basil and garlic. I put it on before I went to bed so I could have some to take to work the next day, but I forgot about it! I came home from work and (after cooking for over 18 hours on low) it was wonderful! The roast was falling apart and wasn't dry at all. I was worried about the long cooking time, but even cooking so long, this was wonderful. Next time I think I'll stick to the shorter cooking time though

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
I'm giving this recipe 5 stars for flavor. I must have done something wrong, but I could not form it into a ball. I double the recipe, so I ended up using 2 cups of powdered sugar and 1/2 cup of brown sugar. I even stuck it in the freezer overnight but this did not help. I thought it would freeze, but it stayed really soft. I didn't have any nuts, so I mixed graham cracker crumbs with sugar and melted butter and toasted them in a dry pan until lightly brown and crunchy. I tried rolling a ball but it ended up looking like a flat football. No matter what it looked like, it tasted amazing!

Six Can Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
granted, this is an okay soup, but it's not chicken tortilla soup... there are no tortillas called for in the recipes, so basically it's six can chicken soup.. and it needs a lot more flavor

Soft Giant Pretzels

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
These pretzels were good but I've tried some better recipes. I tend to read the reviews of others who have had problems and try to make "mistakes" so i can help them... to the person who said the dough was like a batter and that you measured correctly.. i agree, you did measure correctly but the only way my dough turned into a "batter" was by adding the 2 quarts of water meant for boiling to the actual dough itself.

Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2009
I loved this recipe, even though I didn't follow the recipe exactly. I usually try to but I did not have green peppers. I did, however, have fresh baby zucchini, so i decided to substitute that for the green pepper. OH MY GOSH! Talk about AMAZING! Even my boyfriend who HATES zucchini loved this. Technically I didn't make cacciatore since I didn't use green pepper but I could eat it by itself in a bowl without the rice or pasta haha

This is a good recipe. I don't eat red meat, so I made this meatless and added a can of diced tomatoes with chiles and onions. This was very good. Thanks!

Filipino Lumpia

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
I have to give this recipe a 5. I love this recipe! The only problem I had was finding Lumpia wrappers here in Ohio, so I bought springroll wrappers, which didn't work at all. I made a tester and it fell apart, so I form the filling into a meat loaf and it turned out amazingly well! So now, as much as I love lumpia, I love lumpia meatloaf even more haha Thanks for the recipe!

Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2008
I love this recipe! I took the advice of some other reviewers and tried using the microwave. I have to say that squash roasted in the oven tastes sooooo much better... I guess I like that slow roasted flavor the oven gives the squash, sort of carmelizes the sugars more I guess.
