Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2014
Fantastic recipe as it is but I tweaked it a bit to suit family tastes. I took the advice from previous reviewers and reduced the oil to 1/4 cup (for 12 servings) and added 1/4 cup water, then I changed the vinegar to 1/2 cup red wine vinegar and 1/4 cup balsamic. LOVE it! We're big-time salad eaters in our house so I'm always trying different dressing recipes and this one is a huge hit with all of us. I've made it when having company over and a friend who said that they didn't like "Caucasian food" could not stop eating the salad with this dressing - pasta with cucumber, peppers, black olives, feta cheese, tomatoes, onions and this dressing ;)

Chocolate Brittle Surprise

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2013
I've been making this recipe for many years and it's always a huge hit. I prefer to cook the butter and brown sugar mixture on top of the stove and that helps to cut the baking time down to 5 mins. There are so many variations that can be made, such as white chocolate with crushed candy canes or with dried cranberries and chopped pistachios, various nuts, peanut butter chips, etc. I've tried making them with graham crackers instead of the saltines and we found them to be WAY too sweet! Lastly, I pop the tray into the freezer to hurry the cooling along because my sons can't wait for them to cool before "taste-testing" them for me :)

Sesame Noodle Salad

Reviewed: May 14, 2012
I brought this dish to a family barbecue and it went over really well. I followed the recipe except I reduced the sesame oil to 1/4 cup, and that was still too much. When I make this again, which I will, I intend to only use 2-3 tablespoons of sesame oil. Otherwise, it was fantastic!

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2011
I made this recipe exactly as written except that I added cinnamon to the batter (about a teaspoon) and nutmeg to the crumb topping (about a 1/4 tsp). I used a giant granny smith apple as I like the tartness and firmness of them for baking. Really good recipe, kids loved it, easy to make - I only took away 1 star because of the lack of spice/flavour in the original recipe.

White Sauce for Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2011
doubled the recipe, didn't use the 'buds', used 3 cups milk, 1 1/2 cups water. Added some minced garlic to the melted margarine and sauteed for bit before adding the flour, etc. EXCELLENT! My family 3 men, 1 teenager, and myself all loved it. Mixed it with bow-tie pasta.

Crispy Vegetable Pakoras

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2011
We live in Little India so we're used to authentic Indian food. I made these tonight but used mixed veggies (cooked and cubed carrots, potatoes, cauliflower, peas, onion, spinach), put fresh cilantro and extra of all the spices into the batter and they were perfect! My son said they're better than the ones they serve at the Indian hall he works at :)

Mad Hatter Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2011
This is a fantastic recipe and went over great with our dinner guests, especially the women. I had to make a few adjustments as I didn't have a few ingredients. I used a 1:1 mix of rice wine and white vinegar in place of the apple cider and I used walnuts instead of almonds. Otherwise, I followed the recipe to a T and it was EXCELLENT! Served this salad with dill steamed rice and sesame thai grilled salmon :)

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast

Absolutely fantastic! The BEST roast my family has ever had the pleasure of eating. I followed the recipe to the letter and it was outstanding - highly recommend and I now use this method every time I make a roast. A definite crowd-pleaser!

Easy Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
Great biscuits. I didn't have any shortening so I used butter instead and they still turned out fine. I brushed the tops with a mixture of garlic powder , melted butter, salt and parsley and got rave reviews from my family! I'll definitely be making this again.

Sky High Yorkshire Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
Absolutely fantastic! I used to buy the packaged mix but, as my boys have gotten older (and their appetites bigger!), I decided to try making from scratch. I've tried a few other recipes that turned out "okay" but this one is FABULOUS and got rave reviews from everybody at a family dinner. Definitely recommend, came out perfectly. Followed recipe/directions exactly, no changes or substitutions. Thank you to the Submitter!

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
RAVE REVIEWS! We had a houseful of guests for Thanksgiving dinner and this was a perfect dessert for the holiday. Looking back at the recipe, I realise now that I reversed the directions!!! I removed the 1 cup of batter and added the pumpkin, etc., to the 1 cup and spooned that on top -- too funny! Anyway, it turned out perfectly so if anybody wanted to try that.... it works!! Intentional adjustments that I made: increased pumpkin to 3/4 cup, omitted the cloves (didn't have any) and increased the cinnamon to 1 teaspoon. I'll definitely be making this for Christmas - Excellent!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
These are fantastic and I'd recommend this recipe to anybody who loves chocolate! They are quite sweet but then a little goes a long way! I cut my pan into 1.5 x 1.5 inch squares and 1 square with milk is a perfect treat. FYI: I made the recipe exactly as listed with no substitutions, additions, etc. Perfect!

Usually when I make muffins they're gone quickly but there were still 6 out of the 12 left at the end of the night.

Basil Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
My entire family loved, loved, loved this soup and I'm planning to make it again today! We all agreed that it tastes a lot like the sauce for Indian butter chicken and I'm planning to tweak it with some Indian spices and serve it with basmati rice and curried veggies. These are the changes I made: 1 minced onion sauteed in HALF of the butter in the recipe, added 3 minced garlic cloves, salt and pepper. I also added about 4 tsps of sugar instead of the 1 and used 1/2 and 1/2 instead of cream. Mmmmmm, perfect as we head into fall/winter!! Oh, my husband and youngest son sprinkled some grated cheddar on top of theirs and raved about it.

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
My kids absolutely loved these and want them again and again! Great way to use up the too-ripe bananas. I used 1/2 c. sour cream because I didn't have yogurt and they turned out perfectly anyway. I also used whole wheat flour.
