DANCE WITH ME......PLEASE!

So, I've add another thing to the list of "things to remind my daughter to ask before she says yes I'll marry you".  Joining the entries...make sure he can fix things....make sure he likes to vacuum..make sure he has a clue about romancing,.....is,.. make sure he will DANCE with you...at least at weddings!
We are at the age when we are watching our kids friends get married and that seems to be happening frequently.  Each time I sit and watch as bride, groom and guests sweetly sway to romantic tunes like "Unforgettable" and "At Last".....then I smile as they break up the dance floor with Swing moves and oldies like "The Twist"...so much fun!  And each time I watch my husband squirm uncomfortably with the thought that I might force him onto the dance floor...his big brown eyes silently pleading with me ...NO, PLEASE, NO DANCING!".  Funny, because I just couldn't do that to him and sad because I actually spent a good portion of my early life as a dancer...it's still in my blood...but who knows, maybe the body and the feet have forgottten how to move!....but wait, older son to the rescue, he loves to dance...and so we did , it was a sweet dance.  Thanks Jeff,..especially since there were so many cute bridesmaids you could have danced that first dance with!!
For a brief moment on the way home I started the griping to myself routine...why couldn't he just dance one dance,...and another thing...why can't he just be a bit more romantic and another thing why can't he just do the dishes at night instead of in the morning and on and on it goes.....you know the routine ladies.
Then, I remembered, this is the guy who gets up at 5:30 am with me and makes my tea and goes out into the cold to scrape my car and start it so it's warm for me.  This is the guy who rubs my sore muscles at 3am when I wake up and can' sleep.  This is the guy who bought me tap shoes when I turned 50.  This is the guy who held me when I cried often  over my Dad's death.  I guess romance has many expressions......some just  don't come with dancin' shoes on.

It took me a little bit to realize how special my husband is too. He's not romantic or affectionate at all, but he is one of a kind. I have never met someone so smart, or someone who uses his brain as much as him. He's very conscience of other peoples feelings and has more care than a lot of people in this world. I would never trade him for someone more affectionate. It wouldn't be worth it.

Hi COCO, You have a truly wonderful hubby!!!!! So what he can't dance, I can't either, can you say "No Rhythm"? LOL. Carlos of course does dance, Mexican male, hence the rhythm:0 My hubster is a keeper too! Laundry? Check, works everyday? Check, takes son to school so I don't have to? Check, Doesn't drink, beat or screw around on me? CHECK!!!!!!! We are soo very fortunate:) I love the fact that you are willing to cut your Honey some slack. They do soo much for us, sometimes they need a break. Have a great weekend!

I'll have you know that made me cry! haha :) I'm such a sap for that sort of thing...my hubs isn't really affectionate except when we are alone and then it's still rare...but that's so sweet...it is little things they do isn't it? I came home yesterday and my whole house was clean (my hubs doesn't ever clean) and the yard was raked...you're right, love is expressed in so many ways...especially when it's coming from a man!

The best advice I've ever received (recently, anyway) was when someone told me "stop giving your husband such a hard time"! Since I've started following that to a degree (it took about a year and a half after my dear old (literally) friend chided me to do so before I start following his advice) I've been seeing my husband in a whole new light! With out even trying I've been seeing more good and less what I'd change. Last night he rocked our dear teething 10 month old to sleep. It was so endearing! Thanks Cocojo, It was encouraging in my own life to read you uplifting your own husband for what he does do for you.

What a sweet story! We are the opposite...my husband loves to dance, and I DO NOT. (Ever see Elaine dance on Seinfeld? That's me). I'm glad he didn't have dancing on his list before he married me!

One of my daughter's boyfriends once asked me why was dancing such a big deal to women. I answered: "It is like sex, standing up, with your clothes on."

What a beautiful blog, Cocojo. Something that we can't be reminded of enough! My husband usually does not notice a new blouse or hairdo, but he always will pick up on my countenance...if I am tired, stressed or sad, etc. I have learned that this is waaaaay more important! P.s. Too funny, Barbara K! Do you do the leg kick too? ;)

Mine may not clean house, either, but he will bring a cup of coffee and the newspaper to me while I am in bed before he leaves for work. You know what? I'm good with that!! He's a good guy am I am a lucky woman!

Oh man Coco.....right thru the heart again. I'm one of those that years ago met my husband at a club. He was in the band and I loved to dance. Fortunatley for me,someone was always ready to dance so that need was met. After we were married, and after he left the band if we would go out, I realized he HATED to dance. Twenty years into my marraige when he left, I was blessed with my kiddos that gratefully love to dance. Just last night, my college age daughter and my high school daughter were here and it was another spontaneous, dining room dance party. Ever watch Ellen? That's us! Makes a body feel good to just move!

Patty Cakes...forgive my menopausal brain, but were we talking about a hawaiian dessert? I did try the Eclair Cake and that was a big hit with my kids and their friends...not as gourmet as I like but when it comes to kids...slap some preservatives between graham crackers and covered it chocolate and they're in heaven!

Yeah, there's some one out there who is willing to admit what they grumble about. You've been reading my mind? My hubby is sweet in his own way, too. I'll admit there are days I forget and grumble to myself, too. I try to make a point of showing more appreciation and concern, remembering the positives makes the negatives less important.I like Daisyland's explanation of dancing! Merry Christmas, Cocojo

About Me
Loving life at 50ish. Kids are gone and I'm focusing on my career! I enjoyed running a chocolate truffle business for 3 years and now teach adults and children about chocolate. I also teach hands on cooking classes at a local cooking school and am writing my first cookbook! Please visit me at my blog www.allrecipes.com/cook/givethemfood
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook almost anything but particularly enjoy Italian. I have been studying Vegetarian and Vegan cooking for the last few years and love to make healthy meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
from scratch cinnamon buns on Christmas morning...they take forever but Oh! so worth it!
My cooking triumphs
landing my dream job as a teaching chef.
My cooking tragedies
when I was teaching myself to cook way back in college, I made these wonderful oatmeal raisin cookies for my roomies....only problem was I forgot the flour! The cookies became one big mass that overflowed the cookie sheet and made a huge mess in the oven!
