About this Cook
I love 18th Century cooking & all true 18th C. cook "gear". Cooking over hearth fires & camp fires producing scrupulous 18th C. meals
My favorite things to cook
Turkey, Ham/Pork, Roast of Beef, Pot-Likker (e-mail and ask about this one) I've even done NY style cheesecake baked over an open camp fire.
My favorite family cooking traditions
pot roast over the campfire
My cooking triumphs
too many to list though a 15th Century "trane" (dessert) comes to mind
My cooking tragedies
My first scrambled egg at age 8....(no grease in the cast iron fry pan)

French Toast II
This is just a simple recipe, and simple sometimes is best! If your family is fussy, leave out the nutmeg. Here is a note... ....Nutmeg contains small amounts of a drug called myristicin, which is chemically similar to mescaline, the active compound in peyote, and may be converted in the body to one of the related amphetamine-like psychedelics. Now back to the recipe....I let the slices of white bread "dry out" overnight so the bread is dry to the touch and it won't soak up as much egg mixture & get soggy or fall apart when picking it up out of the bowl. This also speeds up the cooking time since there is not as much egg to cook "in the bread" (A additional hint is to just use Cinnamon/Sugar mixture instead of adding brown sugar) Also for Diabetics use Spenda/Cinnamon mixture you can make right at home. Basic Bloody Mary
Yes VERY basic/bland....add Tabasco (NOT Franks or other less quality hot sauces which have too much vinegar/salt) a bit of sat & pepper, celery seed, Worcester sauce. A stalk of celery dresses it up also. Spicy V8 is best as is Clamato as a change of pace.
