This was loved by all. I had maybe a cup of sause left over. I added garlic salt to the sause. You must take the casing off the sausage. No need to cook noodles at all just soak. Make the sause a day ahead of time, put the dish together, cover and let it sit over night. I pulled it out 2.5 hours prior to dinner. Let it sit on the counter an hour before cooking. I used slices reather than shredded cheese. I forgot the nutmeg :) I am a newbie to making things from scratch on a regular basis, but I found this not to tough. I drove my boyfriend crazy asking him to taste the sause all day long as I prepared it a day ahead of time and let it simmer all day, 6 hours or more. I added the sugar it called for and doubled the garlic. My picky kids ate it. My boy friends family loved it to. ***** this will almost over flow a 9 X 13 pan. I used glass and it was right to the very top. I had to push down the layers to try and fit it all. I will use a disposable one next time as I think those are bigger. *****
