I grew up cooking with my mom, but when I discovered a gluten intolerance everything I knew basically flew out the window. Learning how to cook without traditional flour is a challenge! But the arduous trial-and-error has definitely helped me develop my own recipes and favorites. If you're new to the gluten-free lifestyle, try my easy recipes. They are, like me, not intimidating at all!
My favorite things to cook
Brownies and roasted chicken with my own spice rub. Why are they favorites? Because they turn out perfectly every time, are simple to prepare and always make a good presentation.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We're both Swedes and Ukranians, but unfortunately our traditional foods are full of wheat! I long for gf perogie and Swedish meatballs, spritz cookes and thin gingerbread. Maybe someday... But, I do make a tasty basmati rice pudding that is a twist on a family Christmas favorite. And I've successfully modified the Easter lamb cake for gf-eaters, too!
My cooking triumphs
Cooking Indian and Thai food from scratch, since I taught myself. I've got a long way to go for more "triumphs..."
My cooking tragedies
Oh, dear. The perils of cooking with an electric stove! I had one at my last apartment and it ruined virtually everything. I didn't make a single loaf of rice bread the whole time I lived there- how sad! My other disaster? Trying to broil a steak in my 1950s oven; I actually set it on fire! Hmm... better stick to the grill, huh?
