Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2014
Delicious! I've been making this for years & haven't done a review on it until now. Followed the recipe, except I have never used sherry in it, instead I just use pineapple juice. I leave out the black pepper because a family member didn't want it in there. I make my own seasoned salt from a copycat recipe from another site. I also use this recipe as a very flavorful and hardy local hawaii meal called "loco moco" just make put a sunny side egg on top patty and serve it over rice. Delicious!

Fast and Friendly Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2014
Original recipe made it exactly as written, it was bland. Really, it was bland and has that hint of turkey essence taste. I would make this recipe again, but by adding spices as other reviewers suggested. Adding other spices as other reviewer suggested is a must. I didn't want to waste what I just made, so I cut up those meatballs in quarters & a few in eights, simmered them in our favorite marinara for an hour or so that it would soak up the sauce and served it with pasta.

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2014
Loved this recipe. I used what I had on hand we only had 85% lean beef but that was ok, because I know I always can drain it before I put the glaze on. I didn't have dry onion soup mix, instead I used 2.5 TBS dry minced onions. I used toll house light buttery crackers. Baked it for 25 minutes, drained the fat out and put the Connie's glaze recipe 3 TBS ketchup, 1 TBS honey, 1/2 tsp worcestershire, then baked it another 25 minutes, I then turn on my oven light to see how it looked & set the oven to broil for less than 2 minutes to make my glaze topping look good. Hubby loved this recipe and so did I. We liked this recipe more than the brown sugar meatloaf. Thank you!

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: May 20, 2014
Made this last night followed it exactly as written. I found that the pork chop it self was as lacking flavor, chops were a bit on the dry side, sauce was good but not something to rave about. My family thought it was a different recipe for smothered pork chops since it was served with it's sauce. From the time it took to finish this dish it wasn't worth it.

Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2012
Following the recipe as written I found the cake was way too sweet both cake & frosting maybe because I used very ripe bananas, it was lacking that true banana flavor i'm looking for. The cake was also very dense in texture. My second try in baking this was way better to my preference. Using 3 med very over-ripe bananas I reduced the sugar to a little less than 1 3/4 cup. I also used salted butter for the batter because I only had enough unsalted butter for the frosting. I cut the salt to 1/8 kosher, I also added a 1/2 tsp cinnamon to batter. Added a little less of a 1 tsp baking powder keeping in mind that original cake was dense. Poured in 2 9" round cake (bottom lined w/parchament paper & sprayed w/pam) I had to put them on a scale so I could even out batter by weight. The extra batter I put it into 1 mini loaf pan sprayed w/pam. Baked 45-50 min. Loaf was done less than that. USE THE TOOTHPICK TEST to check if cake was done. Left in pan to cool. My toddler & I loved the warm mini loaf out of the pan no frosting as is very delicious, moist & that banana flavor I was looking for. Next time I'll make mini loaf cakes. As for the frosting really the cake didn't really need it. It was great alone. But I did frost one of the cake. I decreased the powdered sugar about 1 cup & added 1/2 cup each time after I mixed well & did a taste test it, you can add sugar a little at a time its about your taste preference on sweetness, remember you can add but can't take away.

Strawberry Cream Roll

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2012
Made this twice. First I made it as written. It was ok but it was lacking strawberry flavor looking for as the title says. The smell of the roll to me was eggy & didn't care for it. The Second time I made this after reading several reviews. I added a lemon rind & squeeze a little of its juice. Used strawberry jello instead of unflavored gelatin elimited the 1 Tbs sugar & used an extra Tbs jello. I thought I needed more filling so I made a little more. Rolled & chilled. Served it with fresh strawberries & our favorite store brought whipped cream. It was delish. Some family members did the works on serving them selves added ice cream, stawberry, bananas, whipcream & syrup, it was a hit. Family requested I make this again.

Pumpkin Roll Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2012
Delicious! I made this w/o nuts because the hubby didn't like nuts. Other than the missing nuts, made it exactly as written. It tasted like a bakery made roll cake. Hubby asked if I was going to make more so he could take it to work. Important to check your cake as I forgot to do so with mine. Mine was done less than 15 minutes I left it in my oven the full 15 min. I had a little hard dark edges trimmed it off & rolled it. Important to cool it completely before filling it.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2011
Wow! I made the muffin batter exactly as stated in the recipe. Its a thick batter which is a plus for holding those heavy berries in place or any other fruit of your choice. I also used frozen blueberries because that was all I had. Love it how it my frozen berries didn't discolor the batter, so my muffins turned out beautiful. Used Chef Joy's topping review. I also made the another blueberry muffin recipe (blueberry cream muffin) which I & my family could compare side by side since I had already had an open pkg of blueberries in freezer. The difference was in the batter mix this was more a lighter batter texture, more like a cake batter it made my frozen berries color the batter faster. My family & I perfer this To Die For Blueberry Muffin this recipe tasted way better.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
Delicious! Took the advise of others...Tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce in meat mix. Sauted the onions & 1-2 minced garlic. Cut the salt a bit because I added a splash of soy sauce. Cut the milk to less than 1/2 cup meat was already moist. For the topping ketchup mix I also added a tablespoon Worcestershire sauce used a little over 1/4 cup brown sugar mixed and pour over meatloaf before baking. Loved it!

Mini Pineapple Upside-Down Cakes

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2011
Beautiful & Delicious! USE PINEAPPLE TIDBITS is a must! That way when you bite/fork the mini cakes you'll ALWAYS have a piece of pineapple & cake, easier to eat. Made this several times, took several batches to a family party & it was a hit the first dessert to go I mean gone & people were asking if theres more. Heres what I did. Sprayed pan with Butter Pam. Used yellow butter mix (thats what I had on hand). Used 1 20oz. can tidbits instead of slices. Followed cake mix on box but also used juice from the tidbit can & added water to make up liquid required in mix. Spooned about 2 tsps butter/sugar in greased pan, laid 4-5 tidbits in a ring pattern then spooned 1-2 tsp batter, then added 1 chopped smaller tidbits into each batter then spooned batter over it. Baked perfectly in 20 min.

Taqueria Style Tacos - Carne Asada

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
Wow!!! Very authentic Mexican taste. Made this carne asada last night for dinner. Along with an array of relishes on the sides since he likes to mix his own. Mexican hubby loved it & was suprised that I could cook Mexican (well, I being Asian) He couldn't stop talking about it & was still talking about before I left for work this morning. Thank you for the great recipe!

Spicy Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
OK. Personally I didn't think it was spicy as said. Because of the ground cumin in it, it had an aroma like curry it overpowered the other spices. 1 Tbsp of cumin is too much in a recipe. Better to use less or dashes of it it would of been fine. My family didn't care much about it, maybe next time I'll use dashes of cumin.

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
Very Delicious. Instead of egg whites, I used the whole egg didn't want to waste an egg yolk, maybe next time when i'm feeling a bit heathly I'll just use egg whites. I added some Soy Sauce to the mix and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. It was delicious, definately this recipe is a keeper.
