About this Cook
I'm the single mom of a 21 year old son.Compiling recipes that successfully make 'something out of nothing'!
My favorite things to cook
I love new recipe's, and am making a very concerted effort to eat more vegetarian, lower fat foods. I love whipping up a stew or pot of soup, as it's the classic comfort food in our family. I love having the time to bake, especially breads, and my signature cinnamon buns. I am now getting adept at cooking with mostly ancient grains flours, and loving what it's doing for my health, and my body!
My favorite family cooking traditions
As mentioned, the soup pot and stew pot are well used in our home, and I've learned from my mother how to make something tasty out of very little! I've always wanted to make perogies and cabbage rolls the way my mom did...but it's hard to attain to perfection!
My cooking triumphs
"Drunken Bunny" - rabbit in port, served on rice.Blew my co-workers away! "Apple Pie"-made to celebrate a hand made pie plate from my dear potter friend. The perfect pie, and the perfect pie crust. "Roast Chicken with roast vegetables, cream cheese mashed potatoes, and jus" - perfect and juicy - the kids were so full!!! "Chelsea Bun Cinnamon Buns" - an experiment that turned out so very, very well!
My cooking tragedies
Beautiful Angel buns that I mistakenly made with baking soda, instead of baking powder! For a Fireman's End of Year Dinner I cooked a perfect Prime Rib; then undercooked the swiss style baked potatoes, which came out looking great, and tasting crunchy!

Blueberry Muffins I
Perfect, old fashioned muffins! I am gobbling them down as we speak, with a mug of hot tea! I use spelt - no problem! Mixed frozen berries - still fab! I even finished them the way we did in 'home ec' (does anybody know what that means? ;) ) once baked, I dipped them in melted butter, than granulated sugar. MMmmmmm!
