I'm a stay-at-home mom of two growing (hungry!) boys, so I cook a LOT. I really enjoy figuring out how to make existing recipes better, and coming up with insane made-up recipes with stuff I find in the back of the freezer. When I'm not in the kitchen I'm usually doing something creative--whether it's painting, carving stamps, sewing, or singing.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking, so desserts and bread are two of my absolute favorite things to make. But I also enjoy having yummy hot meals ready for my husband when he gets home from work! I grew up in California, so Mexican food is something I'm really good at.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every fall my family has to make hundreds of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. The smell of them cooking, and the sight of piles of them on a huge plate are two of my favorite things about autumn.
My cooking triumphs
Making an entire Thanksgiving feast on my own for the first time was definitely a triumph for me. Growing up I'd always wondered how on earth one person could do it, especially with all the timing involved. But after the first time I felt like, "Ha! I can DO this!"
My cooking tragedies
I tend to view the kitchen as a laboratory. As a result, some experiments do not go well. My tragedies in the lab are numerous, but I learn something new every time, so it's not all bad!
