I'm originally from Ford City, PA (north of Pittsburgh) and moved to Columbus 2 years ago to be with my boyfriend/fiance/husband (whatever you want to call him). My mother and both grandmothers were great cooks and bakers, so I took as much as I could from them. My mom is there for me anytime I have questions on techniques or to share the excitement of a new recipe. Coming to Columbus from a small town has exposed me to some new foods. Also, now that I am the cook in the house, I've been motivated to try new things.
My favorite things to cook
I like cooking (and eating) different things from mexican to mediterranian. I really enjoy baking and wish I could start making cakes on the side.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family has German ancestry, so Knadle (potato dumplings) are a specialty. They have a lot of "meat and potato" meals.
My cooking triumphs
After never tasting Jambalaya, the first time I made it, it was delicious. Also, cooking with anything that my mom never cooked with - seafood, spicy things, spinach, etc...
My cooking tragedies
The second time I made Jambalaya, I put waaayyyy too much Creole seasoning in it and it was way too salty.
