Holiday Cranberry Chutney

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2010
I made this almost exactly, with the exception of cutting back on the sugar by half as per other reviewers comments. It didn't quite turn out as well as I had thought. Its nice, serving it with cream cheese, but you can't count on it to be your only appetizer. I read one review prior to making it that said it reminded them of potpouri, and I too found that after a few bites. Its so fragrant and smells like Christmas, which is great to smell but not necessarily to eat.

Broccoli with Garlic Butter and Cashews

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2010
I would give it 3.5 stars if possible. I prepared it exactly as directed and it was good, a nice twist on the usually broccoli. The only thing though is its kinda a little too sweet and doesn't thicken quite that well (mind you, I didn't add cornstarch because I was trying to follow the recipe exactly; might be something I do next time). And it definetly requires cooking the garlic in the butter for a little while before adding the other ingredients.

Fresh Tomato Salsa

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2009
I followed the directions, exactly. It is way too salty, and way too liquidy. It turns out like a soup. Will not make again.

Amazing Crab Shells

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2009
I didn't bother stuffing into shells. Instead, I just heated it up and served as a dip with crackers. It got fantastic reviews from my quests.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2009
I was looking forward to making this, not only because it was easy but because the reviews made it seem so great. I followed JillyBean’s suggestions and I must admit I am very disappointed. Doubling the sauce, but leaving the cream cheese the same makes it almost impossible to taste the cream cheese. Same for the worchestershire sauce. Frankly, the whole thing just tastes like onion soup mix. I wouldn’t make this again.

Cabbage Fat-Burning Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
My boyfriend looked at the pot quizzically, and I explained to him "its good, its healthy and filling and a great way to get your veggies in. Its something easy for weekday lunches." I think that is the best way to describe the soup. Its not outstandingly delicious or something I would ever crave, but it hits the spot. It was a great opportunity to get rid of all the veggies I had in the fridge. I omitted the carrots and added cremini and white mushrooms, bok choy, zucchini, leeks and used fresh green beans. Also, I found I need more liquid because of all the extra veggies I added, so used more beef broth.

Sesame Pasta Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
I do not write reviews often, but this recipe is amazing . For those that complain it turns brown, of course, there is soy sauce in it. Like others I doubled the dressing ingredients, except the oil, kept it at 1/3 cup. Next time I might not fully double the sesame seeds for the dressing as I found I had quite a bit. Put half on now and will re-toss later before I serve it at the party. A little note: it needs the green onion and cilantro, dont bother without them. I added blanched snow peas (threw them in the water with the pasta) and carrots. Yummy! UPDATE: I doubled the sauce, however, its not necessary. With the dressing I had I was able to make 2 batches and still had some left over. The second time around I put slightly more dressing and it wasn't as tasty. Don't go over board on it. But if you don't double the sauce ingredients, be sure to cut the oil in half.

Jalapeno Popper Spread

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2009
I have made this recipe over 20 times. Every party I go to, people request that I bring this dip. The only modification that I make is I use parmigiano reggiano cheese and instead of spinkling it on top of the mayo/cream cheese, I mix the entire amount in. This has given me the best feedback. In addition, I have found that the most popular things to serve the spread with are mini pita rounds (cut in half) and small tortilla chips (the little round ones). Thanks so much Denise!

Chicken Creole

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2009
As is, there is nothing creole about this recipe. In addition, it is extremely bland and lacks flavor. After initially viewing the recipe I decided that the tomato sauce would require a longer cooking time on the stove top or the dish would simply taste like diced tomatoes. This however still didn't help. I followed the recipe exactly as stated and will not make again.

White Wine and Garlic Dream Cream

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2009
I cut this recipe in half, and it was still fantastic. Be sure not to cook on too high of a heat or all your liquid will evaporate.

Mushroom Orzo

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
Nice side dish. Required about 3x the amount of liquid suggested. I had some cream in the fridge so I used a mix of white wine, cream and chicken broth. Used less butter and cheese and it still turned out creamy and delicious.

Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
I followed the recipe exactly and the filling consistency was like jelly and would not harden. In addition, the streusel pretty much tasted of flour, and thats all. Needed more cooking time also.

Stuffed Shells III

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2008
This recipe was very good, but I feel it was missing something. I think next time it might be helpful to add some seasonings to the cheese mixture. Possibly some italian seasoning or oregano or fresh basil. Also, it does fill two 9X13 dishes so I, like other reviewers, froze half. I made one other change, I cubed (very small) the mozzarella cheese instead of grating it. I find once it is melted, the consistency is better. If you try this, and use the ziploc bag technique to pipe the filling into the shells, be sure enough to cut a whole big enough to squeeze out the cubes. Thanks for the great recipe!
