I live on the Nature Coast in Florida. It's kind of rural and very beautiful. Not at all like what most people think when they hear Florida...there's not a theme park for 100 miles.
My favorite things to cook
The simpler the better. My family doesn't like elaborate presentations or food they don't recognize. They like wholesome, well-prepared food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Teaching my daughter to cook and when she was able to make meals by herself. Seeing the pride and sense of accomplishment she has when it's eaten is joy beyond measure.
My cooking triumphs
The biggest triumph I have had must be when my father (visiting from out of state) told me that I cooked like his mother. She was Danish, and one of the best cooks I've ever known.
My cooking tragedies
Learning to cook on an electric stove! I had never had an electric stove until I moved to Florida and it took me forever to adjust to the fact that there is no such thing as simmer or low with electric. It's either hot or off. There were way too many tragedies to list, thank goodness I'm a quick learner.
