Swift Strawberry Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2010
There was nothing fabulous about this salad. It was rather sticky and just not salad material.

Turkey-Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2010
It gets 5 stars because once you season the meat, this is EXCELLENT. I make it in peppers or somethings I chop up peppers and add them into the mix and roll this in dough. SO VERY GOOD.

Banana Muffins with a Crunch

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2010
This is NOT healthy but it is so fabulous. Add flavored granola for more fun but leave out the banana chips and don't use as much sugar.

Taqueria Style Tacos - Carne Asada

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2010
I don't care if it's an authentic recipe or not, it's FABULOUS. Great flavorings and other than the spiciness of the salsa, I have no complaints. If you aren't one for spicy, cut the jalapenos down some and WEAR gloves while working with them.

Chicken Piccata I

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2010
This COULD be a 5 star if you add about 1/2 a cup of heavy whipping cream to the sauce and DO NOT add PARSLEY. Chicken piccata does NOT have parsley in it but it does have capers.

It was rather bitter tasting. I love greek yogurt but greek frozen yogurt doesn't really work.

Chunky Monkey Pancakes

Too sweet. Nothing special. Greasy/oily. Glad I tried it before I made it for guests, this would have been a huge embarrassment to me as a chef.

Never Fail Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2010
Depending on who you ask you'll get a response of 4 stars to 5 stars (in the group that ate the cookies.) I followed the recipe to the T and personally found the 2 cups of chips to be too much making it a little too sweet. I had no complaints from a 13 year old except, wow, they are big (I was in a hurry and made them quite big). Others gave this recipe a 4 because they had waited hours after I baked them to try them and found them... 4 material (best way to describe it I guess.) I had left over dough from the morning and made them again this evening and got immediate 5s from the same people who gave them 4s earlier. This is because they were fresh from the oven, gooey, chewy, fabulous (but still slightly over sweet in my opinion). The ONLY reason this cookie gets a 4 is because of the sweetness but if you like that in a cookie, it's a 5 all the way. You MIGHT need to cook them longer than suggested, do a cookie check before taking them out (do they sink too much in the middle?)

Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2010
The recipe above only deserves 4 stars max BUT if you add at least 4 ounces more cream cheese and take away maybe 2-3 tablespoons of the pumpkin puree this recipe has 5 stars written all over it. With the above additions it's light, airy, flavorful, tasty. Be VERY careful not to over use the ginger in the crust mixture. Also don't be lazy, the crust mixture takes all of 5 minutes to make, it's much better than store bought. If you are going to go and follow a recipe, skipping out because you are lazy just takes away from the recipe and pride from the meal.

Blue Cheese Beef Tenderloin

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2010
The beef was succulent, the marinade fabulous. That deserves 5 stars but then the blue cheese sauce was too strong and overpowering destroying the amazing flavors of the meat. I suggest cutting down on the blue cheese, probably in half and adding maybe 4 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce to compliment the blue cheese. With these changes this might be a great meal but as of right now I can only give it three stars.

Velvety Pumpkin Soup With Blue Cheese and Bacon

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2010
This is divine! Everybody in the house LOVED the flavor, how smooth it was, the texture, everything. I've made this on many occasions and never had a complaint but always rave reviews. I've also skipped the bacon on occasion and added toasted nuts or toasted pepitas. WONDERFUL recipe!!!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies III

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2010
These are 'okay' cookies. They get 3 stars because after the first batch I had to add spices in myself, they were VERY bland before this and bordered on 1 star. I was lucky to have pumpkin pie spice on hand so I didn't have to individually add in all the recommended ones. This also says it yields 2 dozen but I'm wondering what size cookies the original poster was making, were they for bigfoot? If you go by standard sizes and not super sizes our country is based on, this single recipe can yield up to 4 dozen cookies but if you are looking to follow exactly, your cookies will be huge. Again saying it's an 'okay' recipe because it would make a better 'blondie brownie' type recipe than a 'cakie cookie'. Cakie cookies aren't popular amongst children and the masses but put in the right setting (ie brownie-type) I can see them quickly gobbled up (again if you add spices so they can have flavor). Another thing, ALWAYS add flour last regardless of what the recipe calls for, this is baker's knowledge. Adding fluids to the flour batter prior to combining all ingredients together only gives you a rough batter and harder cookies (or cake, etc).

Lamb Shank Braised in White Wine with Rosemary

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2010
I gave three stars because even though I didn't enjoy this particular recipe, those I cooked for did. I found it terribly bland, almost as if the white wine soaked out any possibility of flavor which is hard since rosemary tends to be a strong ingredient by itself and usually then only more potent as other herbs/spices are added. Now my guests loved it, it was a nice alternative to the usual mint jelly. They found the recipe to be a great tenderizer for the lamb and mighty tasty. I guess you either love this or hate it.

Grilled Cheese and Peanut Butter Sandwich

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
I book marked this because it sounded so absurd. I made it because I had nobody else to cook for and thought, 'what the hell.' I rated it 5 stars because it was OUTSTANDING. I had to take 2 bites because I wondered if my taste buds were failing me or just horribly confused. To top off the gross factor I grabbed a bottle of buffalo sauce from the fridge and filled a ramekin to dip the sandwich in. Marvelous. Hallie_Toronto, you are not insane, you are a genius, okay maybe a little insane to have tired this to begin with.

Grilled Peaches and Cream

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2009
Excellent!!! Delicious!!! Bravo! :o) My whole family loved these and we've had them numerous times now. I flavor my own cream cheese with honey and nuts, or brown sugar and cinnamon (though the honey and nuts totally win out). I also can't bbq (grill) because, well honestly, we have a propane tank and it bothers me so I used an indoor plug in grill with racks on it (for the "grilled" affect) but it was just the same. So perfect!!!
