Alice and Me in Cape May
About this Cook
... I was born on a cold Autumn Tuesday in the year of the rooster under a mostly full moon. My early years were spent outside of a farming town somewhere up north where 'suburbia' was the big city and the big city was just a place in musicals and on TV. I've been told the tulips were taller than I was, which if you know me, probably isn't a hard feat but they still deserve bragging rights. At a young and impressionable age, my father moved us down to the south, or really just below the Mason Dixon line, where I spent the remainder of my youth and young adult life growing up. Currently I live with my fabulous pup, in Washington DC, within walking distance of some of the greatest monuments and museums as well as some of the greatest people I know. There's something that fuels me in the city, it's character, it's life, it's 'juice'.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking elaborate meals that have their own style with a twist a la moi. I believe all meals should be well rounded but that doesn't mean we need to eat boring veggies and plain ole carbs. A little bit of spice here, a lot of herbs there, bring it on!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Spaghetti. Every generation of women in my family has their own spaghetti sauce recipe that originated with their mother (and her mother and her mother's mother, etc) but without realizing it, we've all put a twist on what we grew up on. The recipe isn't written down, it's from cooking with our mom's for years and years and then, it being engraved in our minds, we go off and make our own.

Banana Muffins with a Crunch
This is NOT healthy but it is so fabulous. Add flavored granola for more fun but leave out the banana chips and don't use as much sugar.
