I helped out around the kitchen but didn't branch out into actual cooking until I got my own place-now I love it.
My favorite things to cook
My favorites? Casseroles and salad. I also like the special challenge of creating something out of those odds and ends I always seem to end up with when it's time to go grocery shopping again.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad makes the BEST Mississippi cornbread salad. He reads Progressive Farmer (yes, he's an actual farmer) and he got the recipe from that. It's a combination of casserole and salad style foods so as you can imagine...I'm a fan. =)
My cooking triumphs
For my daughter's birthday party I made 2 casseroles. I had planned on making something else (that I can't recall now) but couldn't find that ONE ingredient...so I ended up boiling all the pasta I could find in my house (spirals, shells etc) and I put all of that in baking pans in layers with cheese, tomato sauce, and vegetables (one had chopped ham). It was a HUGE hit!
My cooking tragedies
Cooking tragedy: I LOVE pad thai and tried to make it on my own. I'm going to have to stick to getting my Asian food (which I love) from restaurants because it turned out HORRIBLE. hahaha
