Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
Needed to use up green peppers and wanted to use beef, since we were "turkeyed out" from Thanksgiving. I used the ingredient search and thought this sounded interesting. Used fresh garlic since I didn't have garlic powder and fresh tomatoes because I didn't have a can of stewed tomatoes. Having never tasted pepper steak, I don't know how it is supposed to taste, but this was delicious over rice. Our company went for thirds AND fourths, so I don't think they were just saying it was good to be polite! Ha! Ha! Thanks for an easy recipe with a great result!

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
Living in China, it is impossible to find the old stand-by canned tomato soup. When the cold weather hit, I was wanting my tomato soup... so it was allrecipes.com to the rescue! Mmm! Mmm! GOOD!! This was delicious! Only problem... it was gone too quickly! Will definitely double or triple the recipe next time! Thanks!!!

Greek Lemon Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
Trying to use up some lemons I was given, I remembered having a lemon soup at a Greek restaurant that I liked. Was pleasantly surprised when this tasted just like it! The only thing I beg to differ with is the "16 servings"... because of the great taste, this recipe only served about 6 because of my Chinese "kids" who love to eat "American" food! It was all gone before I knew it! They actually think I am a good cook... Ha!Ha! (Thanks allrecipes.com!) So much for leftovers! Sad because I didn't get seconds but happy because it was such a hit!

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
If you like zippy and zesty, you will love this dressing! I am SO THANKFUL for the little "servings" box and orange "calculate" tool under the picture and above the ingredients! Math - ugh!!! Was discouraged trying to scale it down until I discovered how EASY allrecipes.com has made it for us! Followed LISAKP71's helpful hint and used the blender, scaling the "servings" down to 10, which filled a quart jar to a little more than half. Chopped up a bunch of different veggies and served them raw, allowing each to use the amount of dressing they wanted. Even the ones that made a "pucker" face kept eating it! We now live in China and have a very small frig, so it is convenient that it can be kept at room temperature! Thanks for a dressing with pizazzzz!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
This was easy due to having all the ingredients on hand. It was not too spicy for my "whimpy" taste, but enough flavor to satisfy my "loves spicy" husband. After doing some research, 2-3 Tablespoons = 1 packet of taco seasoning. Thanks!

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
My husband took one bite of this banana bread and said, "This is the one, don't ever try another recipe." That was encouraging! When I took my first bite, it brought back the memories of my mom's recipe, which I have been trying to find for years! Living in China and not having access to buttermilk, I remembered that my mom would put vinegar into milk for her recipe and wondered if THAT could be the buttermilk. What WOULD we do without the internet??? YES! For THIS recipe, add 1 teaspoon of vinegar to 1/3 cup of milk and let it stand for 5 minutes. Voila! The buttermilk! (For 1 cup of buttermilk, add 1 Tablespoon vinegar to a cup and fill to the top with milk and let stand for 5 minutes.) Thank you SO much for this wonderful recipe! It is a huge hit and disappears almost as fast as I can bake it!

Fresh Pear Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2008
Having been given a huge bag of pears and not knowing what to do with them, I turned to allrecipes.com :) Had never heard of pear pie, but went with the most 5 stars rating. I was in a hurry and forgot to read the recipe again and ended up throwing all the ingredients into a big bowl, minus the lemon zest, with the pear slices as I do with apple pie. It tasted very similar to apple pie so it naturally was a big hit! Thanks!

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2008
Usually cauliflower is boring to me, but this recipe gave it just the right amount of flavor to perk it up. The only change I made was to just toss the cauliflower in the mixture in a bowl rather than going through the resealable bag route. Quicker and easier. Received lots of compliments. Thanks!

Oven-Baked Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2008
This was a different and delicious way to fix chicken! The only change I made was to cut the chicken into smaller pieces to make it stretch for last minute guests and added a few more sesame seeds, since we really like them. Everyone loved it! Thanks!

Mocha Walnut Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2008
You know you have a winner when you hear, "I HAVE to have this recipe!" I didn't have the chocolate squares, so substituted 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder. Because we love coffee, used 3 tablespoons of coffee instead of one. Quick and easy recipe with great results! Everyone who eats it raves about it! Thanks!

Coffee Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
Oh YES!!! This was a HUGE hit! I was looking for something really different and decided to try this one, even though I usually only go for the ones with 5 stars. This is very under rated and definitely deserves the best rating! Did only use 1 cup of confectioner's sugar and kept adding very strong expresso coffee to get the desired consistency - about 4 Tablespoons. Even those who don't like coffee were smacking their lips on this one! Thanks!!!

Healing Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
YES! The only things I change: 1. add fresh chopped tomato because canned is difficult to find and expensive in China, and 2. I just throw everything in the crock pot after the onion and garlic has been sauteed. The aroma drives our Chinese university students, "our kids", crazy and they can't even wait for it to cool off! Often it burns their tongues but they don't care, they just keep eating and "mmmm"ing! Quick and easy with great tasting soup that has never failed - for anytime! THANK YOU!

Food Processor Chocolate Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2008
This is a GREAT change! We're from the U.S.A. but my husband is teaching at a university in China and the students love to try western food. The girls LOVE sweet, but most of the boys do not. Getting ready to frost a birthday cake for one of the boys, I was looking for a new recipe and by mistake clicked twice on the "sort by rating" and the description "too sweet for me" caught my eye. Everyone, even the girls, loved it! My husband really liked it! Since I do not have a food processor, I just whipped it with the mixer. Thanks for a nummy alternative to rich frosting!
