April Fools Foods.

I try to make April Fools Day fun!  No pranks or mean things though, I use FOOD! Now, I didn’t not think the ideas up all by myself, there is a LOT of information out there, even on our beloved ALLRECIPES.. .   Check out this article.   And a search for “april fools” will get you 46 recipes!

Last year I served dessert first!  I made meatloaf muffins topped with “frosting”!  Okay, I cheated and just used instant mashed potatoes colored with gel food coloring but it worked really well!

On the side, we just had canned green beans.  I wasn’t creative enough to disguise veggies, LOL!!

For dessert, we had cheeseburgers & fries with a side of veggies!

I basically followed this cheeseburger recipe, minus the coconut.

The “fries” were apples that I peeled and tossed with lemon juice and then cinamon/sugar mixture.  The veggies were a candy that I cut into pieces.

I went all out last year and even made dirt cake, and jello in cups with a straw stuck in so it looks like koolaid.  My kids LOVED having "dessert" first so of course we had to follow it with the "main course"!!

But now I'm stuck what to do this year.  I wasn’t going to do anything because my DH & I were going to be out of town but now we’re not going!  So give me your best ideas!  Happy April Fools Day!

Very cool! My guys loved stuff like this. We frequently had hot fudge meat cake (meatloaf in a 9x13, frosted with mashed potatoes and drizzled with hot fudge gravy)! Good times :)

Oh wow, I love mashed potatoes but it would be so weird to eat bright purple or green ones! Very creative :)

Everything looks so great and I am sure the kids loved it. What a nice memory for them to have one day when they are older!

About Me
SAHM of 6 yr old girl and 3 yr old boy!
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Chili on Christmas Eve.
My cooking triumphs
Candyland birthday cake for 4 yr old birthday party. I made fondant for the first time for DD 6th bday (it was shaped like a dress, her design!) It's a triumph just to get dinner on the table every night and have it be something they'll ALL eat!!
My cooking tragedies
Hmmm . . . who doesn't have some!! I've burnt too many things to keep track! One time I burnt canned soup on the stove, (I was playing downstairs with the kids) and we just packed up and went to Red Lobster! I should burn food more often!
