Recently transplanted from Louisiana, I have made my home in Virginia/Washington, DC. I love it here; the only caveat is that they don't carry the Cajun spices that I love to use when cooking. But thanks to the internet and US Postal Service, my beloved spices and seasonings are just a click away!
My favorite things to cook
crawfish etouffee, shrimp and corn soup, cream of shrimp soup, shrimp creole, jambalyay, gumbo
My favorite family cooking traditions
When the kids and I moved up here we decided to begin making our out family traditions. This was one of the first...When I am cooking dinner, the kids sit in the kitchen with me. We listen to music, sing, dance, talk -- oh, and cook! My boyfriend gets in on this family tradition as well when he gets home from work early enough!
My cooking triumphs
Last Christmas I made a huge pot of shrimp and corn soup for my ex and his family. I had planned on having enough left over for another meal, but they literally scraped the bottom of the pot! There was nothing left! Safe to say, my soup was a hit.
My cooking tragedies
Once when I was a teenager I decided to bake some cookies (I hate to bake). My mother had put the salt in a cannister (who DOES that?!) and I mistook it for the sugar (the canisters looked the same).
Suffice it to say, sugar cookies don't taste so great without the sugar...ick!
