Blueberry Walnut Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2014
I was intrigued by the combination in this salad. We are big fans of feta cheese so that wasn't a stretch but the blueberries. Let me tell you this is a delicious combination. When I planned this I was sure I had a raspberry vinagrette in the fridge but I didn't so I had to use a pooppyseed dressing. It was delicious. I bought some raspberry vinagrette and tried again and it is just as delicious. I love this combination and I think it would taste good with almost any dressing. I've added a bit of orange pepper that had to be used up as well as some red onion and both are a good addition if you like lots of flavors in your salad. Thanks for sharing this it has become my new go to summer salad.

Cafeteria Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2014
I used 2 cups uncooked macaroni which is 8 oz and it was the right amount. I also added the cheese to the hot milk after I had taken it off the heat just to melt everything together. I wanted to be sure that the cheese would be evenly distributed. This is a good mac and cheese recipe and we will use it again.

Cajun Spice Mix

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2014
This mixture worked well for a popular Jambalaya recipe on this site. I only wanted enough for the recipe and so I adjusted the amount to serve 3. This was almost the right amount.

Colleen's Slow Cooker Jambalaya

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2014
I like the ease and versatility of this recipe. The first time I made this I fould it a bit too hot. So the next time I cut back the cayenne by half. I didn't have Cajun seasoning so I made one off this site so that may have added extra heat. On the advice of others I added cooked rice to the slowcooker this time and it was okay. The rice absorbed quite a bit of the liquid this way so if you want to keep some of that yummy sauce don't do it that way. Thanks for sharing.

Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce II

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2014
I had company coming over for supper but I wasn't sure what time they would arrive. This sauce worked really well. I cooked it for 4 hours on low. When I put it all together I was a bit concerned that it tasted very tomatoey but after 4 hours it was delicious. I have some leftovers and they will go into the freezer. To make the meal easier I pre-cooked the spaghetti for about 3/4 the time needed and rinsed it in cold water. I kept the water simmering on the stove and kept adding water and then when my guests arrived I turned the pot back up to boil and put the mostly cooked spaghetti in the pot. It only took a couple of minutes to finish cooking and we were eating within a short time of their arrival. I would do this again if I needed a meal like this.

Zucchini Saute

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2014
I needed to use up some zucchini so I thought I would try this recipe. I wasn't sure how it would taste but it was delicious. I appreciate that it didn't have a sauce on it. Just the veggies. I followed the recipe except I had an orange pepper I had to use up as well. Thanks for this recipe. It will go into my keeper file.

Bread Machine Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2014
I've used this recipe a few times and it is a favorite in our house. A while back i decided to make a batch and freeze it. It worked great. When I took the dough out of the bread machine I rolled it in a ball and wrapped it in plastic wrap then put in a ziploc bag. When I wanted to use it I took it out of the freezer and left it sit on the counter. It took about 2-3 hours to thaw. Put it on the pan and it rolled out nicely. This is such an easy recipe that is great tasting crust. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe Kim.

Easy Tortellini Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2014
This recipe was so easy to put together. While I was waiting for my supper to cook I was able to throw this together. It took about 20-30 minutes. It isn't just easy but delicious as well. I had regular canned tomatoes and decided I wanted to follow the recipe exactly so I put them in my Bullet mixer for just a second or two and they were crushed just right. I would definitely recommend using crushed tomatoes. The texture is nicer for this soup. I was tempted to throw in more tortellini so it would be nice and hearty but so glad I followed the recipe to a tea. 8 ounces is just right. More than that and it would not have any liquid left. I am loving this soup. Thanks for this wonderful recipe.

Heavenly Potatoes and Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2014
If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. Delicious casserole and a great way to use up leftover ham after the holidays. I used a small onion, chopped and sautéed it a cit before hand. I also cut up the potatoes into bite size pieces because it was a preference. I didn't put bread crumbs on top because i forgot but I think that would taste great. I served this to my company and we all agreed it is a keeper.

Sweet Leftover Turkey Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2014
I used this to mKe a wrap. It was good. I had some leftover cranberry sauce so I spread about 1 tbsp on the bottom of the wrap and then used some of the turkey salad. I topped it off with some shredded cabbage. I made the salad as written except I felt I needed a bit more mayo to make it creamy. I didn't add any salt and used craisins instead of raisins. Just a personal preference. We really enjoyed this as a wrap. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Gumbo Style Chicken Creole

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2013
If I could give this more stars I would. This was so simple to make and I did tweak it just a bit. First off I sautéed the peppers and onions for a bit then added a couple of sausages sliced in pieces. I did this because of a personal preference but not sure I would take this extra step next time. I used a cast dutch oven to make the roux as recommended by other reviews. Next I skipped the hot sauce but put in about 1 tsp cayenne. I just like the flavor. I used leftover turkey because I wanted to get it used up. I didn't have tomatoes with green chiles so I used a can of tomatoes and added a can of green chiles separately. I put everything together in the slow cooker to keep it warm for about 4 hours on low. I decided to add 1 cup of chicken broth part way through the cooking time just to have a soupier dish to serve over white rice. About 1/2 hour before we were ready to eat I added some pre cooked shrimp to warm. This was so delicious and what a great way to use up extra turkey. Thanks for this recipe it will go into my rotation.

Brown Sugar Smokies

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2013
I made these as directed and after the bacon was cooked I put them into a slow cooker to get them to the party. They stayed hot and tasted good even after a couple of hours warming in the slow cooker. You could make these without the skewer and put a toothpick through them. It makes it easy to pick up individual appy's. The only thing I may do differently is marinate the bacon and the smokies in LOTS of brown sugar. I will definitely be making these again.

Tortellini Chowder

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2013
I was looking for a hearty soup that was a bit different and not a tomato based soup. This fit the bill. I didn't have jalapeno peppers so I added a few extra pieces of red and yellow peppers. I would put in 1/2 to 1 tsp of cayenne or chili powder next time to add some heat but it tasted good as is. I'll make this again when I am looking for something different.

Pork Chops in Mushroom Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2013
I didn't have golden mushroom soup so I had to improvise. I used regular mushroom soup and mixed in 1 tbsp of worcestershire sauce and 1 tbsp ketchup. I browned the chops in olive oil and put them into a pan. After the mushrooms were browned I poured the sauce into the pan and warmed it a bit. Then poured this over the chops and cooked covered for 1 hour. The sauce was delicious. I want to try this again with the golden mushroom soup. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Haviland Glop

This was total comfort food. So easy to make and the only changes I made were to double the tomato soup and add more noodles. I needed to stretch the dish. This is a keeper.

Honey Mustard Dressing II

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2013
I love this dressing. I sauté fresh sliced mushrooms and put them on lettuce. Butter lettuce is my favourite for this salad but any lettuce works. Then just before serving pour this dressing on and mix. It disappears everytime.
