I am eccentric and crafty and probably a little bit of a food snob. Although; I would like to add that I love GREAT food, great wine and great music. (those three together can make for a wild night) >;}
My favorite things to cook
I love to make things out of nothing. For instance, leftovers... or something canned... or a run-of-the-mill "quick-and-easy" and making masterpieces. Things that make me literally say "OH MY GOD". I tend to be a perfectionist, so I can tell you right now I wont be posting anything unless its one of those "OH MY GOD" recipes. BTW -I love my saute pan! I love throwing just about anything in my pan with a little olive oil or a tiny bit of butter, adding my choice of seasonings and making magic happen ;)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking cookies with my mom. Those were some of the best times of my childhood. Getting messy, licking batter from the spoon, the sugary smells from the oven, nibbling on a "snuck" from the cooling batch... wow, I'm getting pretty nostalgic right now. But don't you dare call me sentimental.
My cooking triumphs
Too many to name.... and not to mention I just made an amazing meal and am stuffed to the gills (I admit I'm probably just being a bit lazy).
My cooking tragedies
Ill make an amazing meal... yet seem to screw up the rice?! WTF?

Butternut Squash with Onions and Pecans
UNBELIEVABLE! I hate onions, yet I stepped out of my boundaries and took a chance on this one. WOW! The toasted pecans balanced it perfectly. I had to use a wok because of the amount of squash, and also added some brown sugar to the onions (to caramelize and sweeten a bit). I used this recipe with the marinated turkey breast, the cranberry rice, and the cranberry with toasted pecans recipes and it was AMAZING! My only fault was pairing it with a Cabernet instead of a Riesling... but next time for sure :)

Marinated Turkey Breast
Never prepared turkey other than on Thanksgiving & this was truly amazing. Looking for side dishes? Try the Squash/Onion/Pecan recipe. Or the Cranberry Rice and/or Canned Cranberry with Toasted Cinnamon Pecans recipes! I believe it may satisfy ANY pallet! Footnote: try to marinate it as long as possible. I could only marinate for about an hour, yet can only imagine what its like marinated for a few more! (BTW- If you cant "grill" it, preheat oven to 350 F. Place a frying pan on med-hi, pour marinade and meat in pan and cook for about 5 minutes each side to "sear". Pour remaining marinade and the breast/cutlets in a shallow baking dish & cover with foil. Bake for about 20-30 minutes. So tender AND juicy!)
