Balsamic Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2014
I usually eat Brussels Sprouts with bacon, but wanted something different and thought I would give this a try. Didn't have any balsamic vinegar, so I subbed apple cider vinegar & sugar- and omitted the butter. Couldn't have been more pleased! Thanks for an awesome and healthier recipe!

Lavender Truffles

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
I messed this coating for this recipe up, didn't use butter and they still turned out great! Center filling is perfect texture and very rich. I had a few white chocolate chips left over and dipped a few in that delicious!! Tip: If you don't mind flat bottoms, use a small disher-style scoop for the filling and save a mess.

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2012
This is the best chicken recipe ever! As written, there never seems to be enough marinade, and seems to be too salty when I double the recipe.

Fruity Orange Gelatin

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2011
My Grandma makes this every year for Thanksgiving- though she omits the pineapple and adds whip cream. I have never been patient enough to wait until it set enough so that the whip cream doesn't "float", so I always look forward to my favorite thanksgiving dish every year

Creamy Avocado Chicken Salad

Reviewed: May 31, 2014
Good basic recipe, made better when I made the following changes: Used half sour cream, half mayo and cut back on the pepper. Also chopped the chicken into bite size pieces and stirred the dressing in. Was so tasty that I forgot to add the avocado!

Honey Mustard Dressing II

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2014
I can not find a good honey mustard dressing in the store, and this recipe is exactly what I have been looking for! As with all recipes, I make a few adjustments here and there. I use a mix of ground mustard and regular mustard and add a bit of garlic powder. It never quite tastes the same twice, but it's always excellent!

Poppy Seed Tea Cakes

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2014
I had planned on making poppy seed bread, but found this recipe instead and it looked super easy and tasty!. It has a lovely delicate flavor, but bland and dry be comparison to what I was expecting. Not sure if I was using salted, or unsalted butter, that may have made a difference. Additionally I added 1 tsp of almond extract, but still felt bland. I think I over cooked them as well, as cooking time always takes longer on stoneware. Enjoyed this recipe a lot, and will be making again!

Hawaiian Bruddah Potato Mac (Macaroni) Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2014
Made this recipe last night for dinner tonight, with a few changes based on what I had in the kitchen and personal preferences. For starters I had no macaroni, so it was all potato. Nor did I have celery seed, so I had to use celery salt instead and omitted the salt to taste. Made the recipe otherwise as listed (including the curry correction) and it was just a little bland. So I added a little extra seasonings, and added garlic powder as well. Also, added some sweet pickles and juice. Tonight it was delicious!! My husband rarely likes potato salad and had two giant helpings- so you know it was good!

Lavender Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
This recipe was easy to make and turned out well. I omitted the mint and added some lemon juice. As with other reviews I rolled the dough in a log instead using cookie cutters. Will make this again!

German Christmas Nougatkugeln (Nougat Balls)

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2011
Yes, this recipe was messy, but the results were worth the mess. I followed the recipe exactly as stated, except that my coffee was room temperature. I used a breakfast blend and it gives it just a hint of coffee. The hardest part of this recipe was coating the nougat- does anyone have any suggestions? I used toothpicks to dip, but they stuck to the "balls" when I tried to drop them on the cookie sheet. Would give this five stars if the directions addressed the dipping part.

Zucchini Soup with Curry Spices

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2013
SO Easy to make and very tasty. I love the way the spices combine in a mild yet surprisingly spicy way. Next time I will omit the cayenne as it was just too much for me.

Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2012
Made this recipe tonight for dinner. First time I have ever made Brussels Sprouts, second time I have ever eaten them. Recipe was easy and turned out very well. I mixed the oil, maple syrup, salt and pepper before tossing the brussels sprouts. The rest of my dinner wasn't done in time and the out leaves burned, so make sure you don't over cook them! My mother-in-law (not a big fan of brussels sprouts) even liked them.

Cajun Potato Wedges

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2014
I used yukon gold potatoes and microwaved for 2 minutes prior to cutting wedges as suggested by others. While they smelled delicious cooking, they felt like they were missing a little something. Next time I will try using garlic powder and extra salt?

Oma Kiener's Hazelnut Christmas Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
Initially I felt these cookies were a little on the bland side eventhough my whole family liked them. I did however make a few changes to the recipe. First, the dough was too dry, so I added 2 TB of milk. Secondly, I could not find ground hazelnuts, so I tried to ground whole ones in my blender, but ended up with powdered hazelnuts. If I'd had larger pieces I think these would have been better. Lastly I frosted the cookies with Nutella which seemed to help a lot.

Asparagus Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2012
I made this recipe to go along with stuffed manicotti noodles but made a few changes. Instead of sliced bread I used refrigerated bread stick dough and forgot to add the butter and parmesan cheese on top. Was flavorful, but a little dry, I had left over cream cheese mixture, so next time I will go heavier.

Ginger Orange Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2014
Came across this recipe while looking for something that DIDN'T have bacon in it. I really liked the ginger orange combination and the sweet cranberries. However, I personally felt that the ginger was a little over-powering.

Peppy Pear Preserves

This tasted good, but too much ginger for me. My husband really liked it. Next time I might leave out the fresh ginger.

Easy Chocolate Nachos

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2009
I love the flavor! All the yummy goodness of chocolate, but with a surprising though subtle twist with the cinnamon. Next time I make these I think I will just warm up the tortillas instead of crisping them. I might increase the cinnamon too. If you are making these for one person note that two tortillas=one serving. I hope these taste as good tomorrow.

Elderberry Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2014
Made this recipe with a few changes. Pureed the apple (honeycrisp) and added a bit of cinnamon. Not sure if the elderberries that grow wild in Oregon are different, but this had a really sour taste even after adding extra sugar. Also seemed like there was too much water in the recipe? Lastly, if I make this again I would try to find a way to remove the seeds. If it weren't for the seeds this would have been a three star.
