Oma Kiener's Hazelnut Christmas Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
Initially I felt these cookies were a little on the bland side eventhough my whole family liked them. I did however make a few changes to the recipe. First, the dough was too dry, so I added 2 TB of milk. Secondly, I could not find ground hazelnuts, so I tried to ground whole ones in my blender, but ended up with powdered hazelnuts. If I'd had larger pieces I think these would have been better. Lastly I frosted the cookies with Nutella which seemed to help a lot.

German Christmas Nougatkugeln (Nougat Balls)

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2011
Yes, this recipe was messy, but the results were worth the mess. I followed the recipe exactly as stated, except that my coffee was room temperature. I used a breakfast blend and it gives it just a hint of coffee. The hardest part of this recipe was coating the nougat- does anyone have any suggestions? I used toothpicks to dip, but they stuck to the "balls" when I tried to drop them on the cookie sheet. Would give this five stars if the directions addressed the dipping part.

Lavender Truffles

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
I messed this coating for this recipe up, didn't use butter and they still turned out great! Center filling is perfect texture and very rich. I had a few white chocolate chips left over and dipped a few in that delicious!! Tip: If you don't mind flat bottoms, use a small disher-style scoop for the filling and save a mess.

Easy Chocolate Nachos

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2009
I love the flavor! All the yummy goodness of chocolate, but with a surprising though subtle twist with the cinnamon. Next time I make these I think I will just warm up the tortillas instead of crisping them. I might increase the cinnamon too. If you are making these for one person note that two tortillas=one serving. I hope these taste as good tomorrow.

Asparagus Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2012
I made this recipe to go along with stuffed manicotti noodles but made a few changes. Instead of sliced bread I used refrigerated bread stick dough and forgot to add the butter and parmesan cheese on top. Was flavorful, but a little dry, I had left over cream cheese mixture, so next time I will go heavier.

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2012
This is the best chicken recipe ever! As written, there never seems to be enough marinade, and seems to be too salty when I double the recipe.

Fruity Orange Gelatin

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2011
My Grandma makes this every year for Thanksgiving- though she omits the pineapple and adds whip cream. I have never been patient enough to wait until it set enough so that the whip cream doesn't "float", so I always look forward to my favorite thanksgiving dish every year

Ginger Orange Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2014
Came across this recipe while looking for something that DIDN'T have bacon in it. I really liked the ginger orange combination and the sweet cranberries. However, I personally felt that the ginger was a little over-powering.

Creamy Avocado Chicken Salad

Reviewed: May 31, 2014
Good basic recipe, made better when I made the following changes: Used half sour cream, half mayo and cut back on the pepper. Also chopped the chicken into bite size pieces and stirred the dressing in. Was so tasty that I forgot to add the avocado!

Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2012
Made this recipe tonight for dinner. First time I have ever made Brussels Sprouts, second time I have ever eaten them. Recipe was easy and turned out very well. I mixed the oil, maple syrup, salt and pepper before tossing the brussels sprouts. The rest of my dinner wasn't done in time and the out leaves burned, so make sure you don't over cook them! My mother-in-law (not a big fan of brussels sprouts) even liked them.

Cajun Potato Wedges

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2014
I used yukon gold potatoes and microwaved for 2 minutes prior to cutting wedges as suggested by others. While they smelled delicious cooking, they felt like they were missing a little something. Next time I will try using garlic powder and extra salt?

Lavender Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
This recipe was easy to make and turned out well. I omitted the mint and added some lemon juice. As with other reviews I rolled the dough in a log instead using cookie cutters. Will make this again!

Blueberries n' Cheese Squares

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2015
All the yumminess of cheesecake, but light enough to be able to go back for more! I make this recipe every summer with my own fresh blueberry filling instead canned. I usually buy a prepared graham cracker crust. Today I am trying the recipe with Nilla Wafer cookies and adding some strawberries with the blueberries.

Rhubarb and Raspberry Chocolate Macadamia Nut Crumble

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2015
I made this recipe today for Father's Day. My Dad and the rest of the family loved it! The only reason I gave this a four star review was that directions could use some improvement and the bake time was far too long. First I would NOT recommend stirring your raspberries. Next time I make this, I will combine the white sugar mix first, coat the rhubarb and then add the raspberries. Secondly, my food processor didn't do so well with the crumb mixture. Even though I cut the butter into smaller squares, I ended up with chunks of butter dusted with "dough". Next time I will chop the nuts (I chose hazelnuts) first, cut the butter into small cubes, and then add the dry ingredients & chips. Lastly, I skipped the 10 minutes bake step and only cooked it for 45 minutes. The rhubarb was VERY soft. Once it was cool enough to eat, I could no longer see any raspberries and there were only a few chunks of rhubarb. Oven temperatures vary, so I would recommend checking the crumble so it doesn't over cook. Overall a delicious recipe served with vanilla ice cream (just sweet enough to contrast with the tart fruit). I especially loved the chocolate!
