About this Cook
I live in central mass with my husband and son. I never cared about cooking until I got out on my own and did not want to live on fast food and take out. so i began cooking. low and behold i was actually good at it. but besides that i love to read and write.
My favorite things to cook
there is not anything that i do not enjoy cooking. my favorite thing to do is create a unique yet delicious meal (from salad, meal, desert)and do it within a tight budget...i look at it like a challenge!
My favorite family cooking traditions
i preserve jams, jellies, veggies, sauces, pickles, relishes, applesauce and on and on i could go. how much more traditional could it get. this is what people had to do to eat through the cold months years ago.
My cooking triumphs
learning how to become more creative with baking. i once was very scared to steer too far from the recipe before me when baking. the more experienced i have become the more daring i have become and i love it!
My cooking tragedies
HA! there have been many! pie crusts still give me issue. however, i would have to say a batch of cookies i once made that tasted literally (not kidding) like dirt. consistancy and all. not sure what happened except i used a sugar substitute. i know i measured it correctly. so no clue what happened.

Vidalia Onion Custard Bread
made this to go with pasta and meatballs instead of garlic bread and it was a hit. not quite a custard but not a regular bread either (almost like a really soft biscuit is how my husband described it). next time i am going to try it as a crust for a bbq pork casserole that i do and usually top with corn bread.

Easy Baklava
i wish i had never made this! my husband has been asking for it again, almost daily! the entire batch of it was gone in less than 48 hrs...i had two little pieces...the rest just disappeared! obviously a very very very good recipe. i made no changes to it. had some issues with the dough, but working with phillo i always seem too...it fell apart in strips when unrolling it...so i simply just fit it all together like a puzzle in the pan and kept going and the bars turned out perfect. will make again (and hide a few pieces for myself so i can enjoy the fruits of my labor the next time around!)

Cream Cheese Frosting II
i cut the recipe in half since i did not need much frosting (was just using to try out my new decorating tips, doodleing on cupcakes). it held together well, set up nice and honestly tasted like someone had put cheesecake on top of the cupcakes (should be called cheesecake frosting). would use again, but if you do not like the taste of cheesecake then i would not suggest this recipe.
