About this Cook
I'm 15 and I love baking... but I make a big big mess in my mom's kitchen! I am more into the cake-deco side of things, making choc roses and stuff. my blog is bekasbakes.blogspot.com
My favorite things to cook
I bake cookies, cakes, pies, quiches, cream puffs and lots of different things.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family basically cooks chinese food and I don't have a great liking for chinese food... for the most part My aunt makes great french toast and my other aunt has really great banana muffins.
My cooking triumphs
Profiteroles with Creme Mousseline, Le Chocolate Muse Cake, Choc Indulgence Brownie, Chocolate plastic roses, Swiss Meringue Butercream, Dif types of cookies, etc.etc.etc.
My cooking tragedies
Well I made a few things with salt instead of sugar! And this... Gingerbread house I made last christmas... tasted good but the icing went very wrong And some cupcakes with royal icing that was too sweet..

Country Seed Bread
This is my staple bread recipe which I have used all the time for several years now. It is splendid plain, but even better with cranberry and walnuts. I also add raisins and grated carrot/apple recently with a teaspoon of cinnamon. I have this recipe printed. x3 to make 2 loaves or one big loaf.

Sourdough Bread III
This sourdough recipe is the first I've tried, and I'm happy with the results. The bread has a good crisp crust and a delicious inside. Great recipe. I used this for buns the second time. Note: I would cut down the salt and minimize the rising time next time, as it is VERY salty

Dark Chocolate Cake I
This is a very delicious recipe. Having been searching for a moist choc cake recipe for awhile, this definately fits the bill. I find it still tastes good the day after, even better in fact, and probably goes well with most icings, ganache being my favorite. Two things my mom and I have experimented and found to be helpful in this recipe is 1) Adding in a tsp of instant coffee to the cocoa/water mixture as suggested by a previous review 2) Using pure cocoa powder (like vanhouten) really improves the flavor 3) Folding in bits of choc/choc chips into the final batter makes the cake very moist and gives an extra chocolate "kick". Nuts probably can be nice too.
