Easy Crustless Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2014
This was okay, but more like a custard than a crustless pie(which I think of as having somewhat of a self-crusting property). It was a nice custard, but not very easy to get out of the pan nicely. I think the spices could use a little tweaking, maybe a little more cinnamon and a touch of cloves. I did use whole milk, real sugar, and real eggs. I will make this again, but will probably tweak it to fit my preferences. Thanks for posting a nice basic recipe.

Pumpkin Banana Smoothie

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2014
If you think you will enjoy pumpkin and banana together, I recommend this shake. It has a great texture and did taste a lot like pumpkin pie...but with a hint of banana. I enjoyed it, but might try adding some nutmeg, clove, or ginger next time to further mask the banana. Thanks for the recipe, it is definitely a healthy and novel treat!

Low-Carb Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2014
The flavor balance between chocolate and peanut butter is great. I didn't have whey protein powder, so I added a bit of vanilla extract, and I used maple syrup in place of the stevia. It was a little watery without the protein powder, but still a nice treat. I am sure as written it would have been even better.

Chris's Incredible Italian Turkey Meatloaf

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2014
I didn't have the liquid smoke, but it came out great anyways. I will definitely be making this again. My husband even had some, and he is generally against turkey if it isn't Thanksgiving!

Chef John's Buttermilk Biscuits

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2014
These are fantastic biscuits, the best I have ever made. I would even go so far as to say they are the best I've ever had. I also froze them after cutting out and cooked them later with great success. I have a new favorite biscuit recipe- thank you!

Vegetable Dill Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2014
I loved this dip- simple and perfect! I will admit, though, that I used fresh dill, as it was what I had on hand. Also, I had to use seasoned salt for the Beau Monde- I don't recall seeing that brand in stores in my area.

Chef John's Baked Lemon Pepper Salmon

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2013
Very good, I enjoyed this a lot. I will be keeping this recipe to have again sometime. A nice change of pace from the usual way we make salmon in my family(baked with garlic and butter).

Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2013
This pie was very nicely flavored, but did not set up for me(and I even used extra cornstarch). Next time I will be sure to use wild blueberries, and definitely not frozen ones(I used half frozen and half fresh blueberries from a local pick-your-own farm).

Irresistible Double Chocolate Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2012
I absolutely love these muffins! I made mine with a few changes for personal taste and what I had on hand but I am sure the original is very good too. I used whole grain white flour for the flour, substituted instant oats for the wheat germ, added another 1 Tbsp of cocoa powder instead of the cinnamon, and used 1 cup of regular sized chocolate morsels instead of 1/2 cup of mini morsels. They are very moist, chewy, and decadent- will definately be making again. Thanks for the recipe!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars II

Reviewed: May 26, 2012
I loved these- they taste just like a peanut butter cup but are so much easier to make. I made mine with unsweetened peanut butter and I think they were just the right sweetness for me. Thanks for sharing this recipe- I will definately be making them again soon!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
These are a great pancake- my new favorite recipe! They are fluffy but a little spongy- the kind of pancake that won't fall apart on your fork. Definately make them just as stated(by adding the combined wet ingredients to the sifted dry ingredients). I love them and can't wait to make them again- thanks for sharing!

Cranberry Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2012
I love that this recipe uses fresh cranberries- it is delicious! I made a half batch and it still came out great. It tastes very good cold too, and I bet the custard sauce is wonderful, but I did not think it needed it so didn't make it(maybe next time!). Thanks for sharing this recipe, cranberry fans will love it! A little trick I like to use to mellow the cranberries for less cranberry crazy company is to cut them in half and let them sit in a couple tablespoons of the sugar called for(no need to add extra because I think the amount called for is perfect) before adding them.

Pennsylvania Dutch Pickled Beets and Eggs

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
I love these pickled eggs- they have the perfect flavor in my opinion. I did not have an onion so I used 2 cloves of finely minced garlic instead, and I used ground clove in place of whole cloves and they still came out wonderful. Yum!

Cranberry Pie II

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
I really enjoyed this recipe and plan on making it again the next time I have an excuse to make a pie. My pie came out with a nice creamy texture and it was delicious. I tweaked it a tiny bit for personal preference by cutting the cranberries in half and letting them sit for a while mixed with 1/4 cup of the sugar called for- I think this mellowed the sweet-tart contrast a little without making it bland by any means. I did only use a bottom crust for mine, and even still it took a bit longer to set than the recipe states. I have a few slices in the freezer for later- they take a while to thaw but are just as good even after storing which is great if you're the only cranberry fanatic in your house like me. Thanks for this recipe, it's a keeper!
