Grandma's Baking Powder Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2012
I used butter in place of shorting and whipping cream in place of milk, a crunch of sea salt on the biscuits just out of the oven, and made the most delectable, perfect biscuits ever! A slight crunch in the outside, moist and flavorful on the inside. : )

Mock Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
Made this tonight. It turned out delicious. I didn't have any problems with it hardening as I added the peanut butter right after the sugar melted. I also added a TBLS. of salt free butter, then mixed with flakes poured into 2, 9x13 glass baking dishes, pressed, and put a "light" sprinkling of sea salt on top! In half the batch I added some chocolate chips, very good.

5 Stars, delicious and easy to make. Great flavor. Very satisfied with this sauce. There is maybe 4 cups left over. Just refrigerate and use again for more pizza or over pasta.

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
Very good. Easy to make and to work with. Took another suggestion and proofed the yeast mixture first, 15 min. Rubbed the dough with olive oil and let rise for 15 min. Cut dough in half for 2 crusts. Then stretched out with hands. Olive oil helped alot. I also added some honey, just a few drizzles, after I mixed the yeast and flour together. Seemed to be more workable. i agree with others.....no need to order out! Yum Yum...

Fresh Blueberry Pie I

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2009
WOW......delicious pie. I added 1 Tbsp. cinnamon, 2 Tbsp. vanilla, and 3-4 Tbsp. tapioca and the flour too. I also added 2 granny smith apples sliced very thin. They sort of disappear into the blueberries. I used 6 cups fresh. This was perfect consistency, and not too sweet, a very good balance. Someone told me that blueberry pie was too sweet, so I added the apples for balance. It worked beautifully.

Jalapeno Hummus

Reviewed: May 23, 2009
WOW, this is Superb!! I toasted raw sesame seeds then crushed with mortor & pestle. Couldn't find Tahini. (this is great in place of.) Use 3 Tbls. of it. I used one 4"long Jalapeno sliced with seeds in. 3 Tablespoons lemon juice. Added a little of the Garbonzo bean juice to the mixture and some olive oil to make the consistency perfect, since I didn't use canned Jalepenos. Used 1 whole 15.5oz can of the beans...about 11/2C. Followed the rest of the recipe. SOOOO delicious. Thank you Andrew!

Apple-Berry Pie

Reviewed: May 17, 2009
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this pie. This is by far the best pie I have ever made!! Your berries should be naturally sweet or they can taste tart in the pie....still good. I add a little extra cinnamon and some vanilla. It is perfect. Look forward to baking this many more times. ps....I also use the Best Ever Pie Crust, it is so easy and fast to make. I use half butter half shortening for the dough and it is delicious!!

Best Ever Pie Crust

Reviewed: May 17, 2009
This is the best pie crust I have ever made. I use half C. butter half C. shortening. It is delicious!! Very easy to make. I roll it out slowly, between 2 pieces of wax paper with a little flour sprinkled on paper and top of dough, it does not stick this way, and it is very easy to place in pie dish and on top of pie! Thank you.

Beef Bourguignon I

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2009
I agree with suzichef! Glad she said it all. This is wonderful and exactly what it should be. Definitely worth making and better the next few days! I've served this over basmati rice mixed with wild rice. ( wild rice needs to be cooked separately then added to the basmati). I use 2 cups basmati to 1 cup wild. I also add butter to the basmati while it cooks. Delicious!

This is delicious! I used half of a sliced orange and half the amount of club soda. Added this and let the whole thing sit overnight. It was the best I have ever had, and friends said the same thing too. Very satisfying and refreshing. Thank you.

Scalloped Potatoes and Onions

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2008
An excellent recipe! This is the first time I have made scalloped potatoes. I never liked the idea of canned soups in any dish. I prefer fresh. I have altered this recipe to my taste. See if you like it. I chopped scallion/green onion and red onion to make about 3/4 cup of onions. I did put the sliced potatoes in a large bowl and tossed them gently with the onions. I made the sauce with 2 boullion packets mixed with 2 cups water and then added it slowly to the flour/butter mixture. I chopped finely 1 sprig of fresh rosemary and pressed 4 cloves of garlic, added it to sauce, then added fresh ground sea salt and fresh ground pepper, some paprika and some sweet marsala, probably about 4-5 tbls. Then added some cayanne pepper, about 1/4 tsp, and about a tsp. of dry mustard. I Layered the potatoes in short rows in a 9x13 glass baking dish, poured over sauce mixture, sprinkled with fresh shaved Parmesano Reggiano cheese, some more paprika on top and topped with fresh chopped itialian parsley! Baked at 400 for an hour & 15min, then added to the top sparingly, grated sharp cheddar cheese and some more shaved Reggiano cheese! Definitely has a little kick to it, and is unbelievable!!!! I will make this over and over. Took to my neighbors house who says he doesn't like scalloped potatoes, he didn't put the plate down! Success! Hope you like this rendition. Thank you for your great recipe!
