I followed the suggestion of others about the half/half white/brown sugar, I also used semi-sweet chocolate squares (melted) instead of chocolate chips. Lastly, we only had spread butter, so I used butter flavored crisco.
All that said, these are quite yummy. They have that fudgy quality that makes a brownie a brownie. And they demanded that I go to the fridge and pour myself a glass of milk before I could even finish them. That's what makes them so good in my opinion.
