About this Cook
I love dog shows! And have a Tri Color Cocker Spaniel that I show in Conformation,and obedience. She is a registered Delta Society Therapy dog and has her Canine Good Citizen award.I also enjoy dog grooming,painting and taking Maggie to visit the ill and what a special treat for the shut in's. I am married,retired and we have 5 children & 17 precious grandchildren. We live in the country in a home that was built in 1904.
My favorite things to cook
Deserts, because my husband,children,grandchildren and friends love sweets.We eat just about anything although a few of the grandchildren are picky eaters.I also like to fix meals for people that are ill or make a desert just as a treat for a special friend.I myself am a roast beef eater and fix a easy and sooooo good roast chuck. My husband is from Belgium so we like french creamy sauces and pasta.I always use real butter when cooking it just has a better flavor.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mother was a wonderful southern cook and I try to fix food as she did. Somehow it is just not quite the same. But everyone seems to enjoy what I fix,not too many leftovers.Oh how I miss her fried okra and stewed corn.
My cooking triumphs
Some of the grandchildren request special birthday cakes. I have made frogs,horses,trains,horse ranches,motorcross,princess,teapots,Easter,trees,you name it they can come up with very difficult ones.I use a pound cake recipe and flavor it chocolate,orange,lemon,almond.I use a lot of fondant frosting and gum paste in the decorations.When they have party's people always want to know what bakery did the cake.This makes me proud and worth all of the trouble.
My cooking tragedies
Tragedies would have to be in the special cake decorations. My husband ask me all the time why I continue do make these cakes? I guess it is because I love the grandkid's so very much and this is something really special that I can do just for them.It will also give them good memories. One time the youngest grandaughter was having a tea party for her 2nd. birthday. I made a teapot cake to look just like the one on the invitation and the handle kept falling off. I was so mad and upset because I could not figure out this problem. Many cakes later I have learned a few tricks.

Mushroom Pie
Oh my goodness,this is delicious. I read the reviews before I made this and one said it was tastless, NOT TRUE!! I did use sour cream in place of the heavy cream so it would not be as runny, then I followed the recipe. When it came from the oven it looked like a beautiful French pastry,it was so pretty I did not want to cut into it. The taste was so yummy, my husband made a pig of himself. And he says he does not like mushrooms! The other wonderful thing it is quite easy. Thank you GATOULA for sharing your fantastic recipe. PartiCockerMom
