French Dip Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2013
Without the juice my meat was too dry, but the flavor of both the sauce and the meat was good. I used reduced sodium soy sauce and actually could have went for more salt to get it a little closer to restaurant. In my crock pot the amount of water I used was about 2 cups.

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies IV

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2013
A very sweet cookie. I also doubled the recipe, used a bag of white chocolate chips, and 6 oz macadamia nuts. My double batch made 4 dozen "medium" OXO cookie scoop size, which is 2 TBLS I believe, cooked for about 10 minutes.

Apple Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2012
I've made this twice, once following the instructions and the second with my own additions. I thought it was a little bland so I used apples that were coated in cinnamon/sugar, 1/4c oil and 1/4c cinnamon applesauce, and a splash of cider because my batter was super thick. I also used 1/2c whole wheat flour, 1c bread flour, and 1 1/2c AP flour and topped with with about 1/16c cinnamon/sugar mixture per loaf. Turned out to be uch more of a sweet bread- can't get my co-workers out of it!

Garlic Shrimp Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2012
Used this recipe with olive oil instead of vegetable and it was wonderful! Sauteed my shrimp in with the butter and garlic, added about a pound of frozen mixed vegetables, boiled noodles and added it all together. Sprinkled in some garlic salt since the noodles didn't have much flavor, but the veggies and shrimp- yum!

Caramel Apple Jam

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2011
We have never had apple jam before but I was tired of apple butter so I decided to make jam this year instead with our apples from the orchard. I used Mcintosh apples, followed the recipe, and it turned out wonderfully so I made 2 batches! The first batch made 7 jam jars with a little extra I put in the fridge and the second made 9- I think this is because I was a little quicker with the second batch and didn't let it simmer for so long. Will make again and am planning on giving it for Christmas!

Garlic Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2010
Yummy though I did add extra Parm cheese to the tops of these as well as additional garlic. Baked at 350 for 45 minutes lightly covered, then 15 minutes uncovered to get nice and crispy. Will be made a staple at our house.

Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2010
These are very good (though used Andes Mints rather than the other chip-variety listed). I'm a mint-chocolate lover and I really could only eat 1 cookie because they were so potent.

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2010
Mushy, mushy. I used 3/4 of the bread called for, less liquid as other reviewers had said, turned the bread over and it was still too mushy for our taste. I ended up taking it out of the baking dish and putting each piece- not touch anything- on a broiling pan and baking until the entire piece came out firm. I was hoping for a quick and easy meal with the pleasures of french toast without the work and I ended up more frusterated and in the kitchen for longer than if I had just made it on my skillet. I gave it a two star because the flavor is good (it is exactly what I use for a skillet-prepared french toast) but it was just so gross and mushy I can't rate it higher.

4H Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2010
Good banana bread as is, but to make it 5 star I add 1-1 1/2 t cinnamon, 1 t vanilla, sub 1/2 c brown sugar for white, and use 3/4c whole wheat flour. Yummy!

Garden Veggie Pizza Squares

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2010
Made the recipe using 1/2 the ranch packet but omitted red pepper since I didn't have any and sub. pre made pizza dough instead of the biscuit for football Saturday. I added cauliflower and a very small sprinkle of cheddar cheese across the top and it was great. My non-veggie eating father in law had 4 pieces and my non-green pepper eating fiance had 3! It went the fastest even though there were so many greasy/chip dip options available! Will be making again and again!

Soft Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2010
These were good, flavorful with the Italian seasoning. I didn't have fresh garlic so I used garlic powder, I used shredded parm. since I didn't have the grated kind, and I used one packet of yeast (which is not a full 3 t, but they were still wonderful and fluffy). Next time I will probably use more cheese and pull the bread sticks out to butter them during cooking. We like ours a little more soft. They came out really fluffy, and I made these the traditional way (aka, I used my own hands to mix the ingredients)

All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
I've made this twice, once last year and once this year. The first time I made this, I didn't know how to tell if it was done and stopped cooking too early. This time I decreased the sugar by 1 cup as I used a combination of sweet/tart apples and did the "done" test as described by another review and it turned out great. I did have to cook it for about an hour longer than the directions stated.

Apple Squares

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
I was looking for ways to cook apples after a visit to a local u-pick orchard and stumbled on this. I cooked my squares as directed, but I really disliked the texture and I would have preferred more of a dry bar.

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2009
I had problems transferring the puffed doughnut forms into the fryer without them deflating. I also felt the dough tasted a lot like the elephant ear recipe on this site but a lot puffier.
