English Flapjack

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2012
Really easy and tasty. I usually replace the syrup with honey because that's what I have on hand. Also, like others, I only bake it for 17-19 minutes. It might seem too soft when you cut, but it will set as it cools to a firm chewy bar. Any longer in the oven and it tends to end up too crispy or burned, at least in my oven.

Great comfort food. I doubled the gravy, added mushrooms and ate it over rice. So good.

Disappearing Marshmallow Brownies II

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2011
SO SO SO SO GOOD! These turned out rich and gooey and chocolatey and very much like something you would get a restaurant topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I have never made a better tasting bar-type dessert at home. I used the microwave to melt the butterscotch chips and butter together. Just mix every 10 seconds at first, then every 5 seconds once the chips have softened up until it is combined and smooth. I will make this again and again.

Baked Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2010
Delicious! My husband loved it too. It did turn out a little thinner than I like so next time I might add more flour.

Aloo Phujia

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2010
Loved this! I cut the potatoes into smallish cubes to be sure they cook through and use half the cayenne to cut down on the spiciness. Sometimes if I'm out of fresh tomatoes I use a can of diced tomatoes (with some of the juice poured off). Yum!

Cheese Rosti

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
Tasty. I used frozen shredded hash brown potatoes and Dubliner cheese. The crispy bits are delicious, especially where the cheese had seeped through and was browned and toasted.

Muenster Chicken and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2010
Delicious! I was skeptical because the ingredients sounded odd together, but it turned out to be such a tasty dish. Like others, I used eggs and milk to bread the chicken and pre-sauteed the mushrooms. Also added a 1/4 cup white wine to the broth and served it with rice. Will make again and again!

Angie's Perfect Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2010
Delicious rolls! I used only 1 packet of rapid rise yeast for the whole recipe. I found the easiest way to shape rolls from the sticky dough was to do this: dump portions of dough on to a floured surface, sprinkle a little flour on top of the dough, flatten a bit with hands or rolling pin, use pizza cutter to cut into little square pillows, and then transfer to greased pan. Perfect!

Creamy Vanilla Pudding

Super easy and delicious! Like others, I did temper the egg yolk mixture before adding to the rest of the hot milk.

Microwaved Potatoes Lyonnaise

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2010
Pretty good for a microwave dish! It took more than 10 minutes to cook. I suppose it depends on the size of your potato cubes. I cooked mine for about 18 minutes, stirring every 3 or 4 minutes. For the last 4 minutes I put the lid on and then let it sit covered another 5 minutes after I took it out of the microwave.

Korean Spicy Chicken and Potato (Tak Toritang)

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2010
Loved it! I used legs and thighs and then added some cut up chicken tenderloins about half way through for my husband (who is more of a boneless/skinless chicken person). So good! The next day I separated all the leftover chicken meat and used it along with some of the pan sauce to make a spicy fried rice. Delicious!!

Baked Onion Dip I

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2010
So yummy!! I did a little variation to utilize the ingredients I had on hand. I halved the recipe, used yellow onions (finely chopped) rather than sweet onions, and replaced a 1/4 of the mayo with cottage cheese. Instead of all parmesan, I used half parmesan and half shredded cheddar. I baked it in a pie pan, and my husband and I ate ALL of it with saltines. Yum! It was a bit greasy, but not swimming in it. I think you just have to expect some grease when you're dealing with any baked mayo-based dips.

Swedish Cookies (Brunscrackers)

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2010
These were delicious! I used margarine and substituted honey for the golden syrup. Simply scrumptious! My only issue was that the dough was very sticky and was not easy to make into rolls as the recipe might lead you to believe. It was a bit messy as I had to use my hands to settle the 'gloop' into log shapes across the baking pan...but so worth it for the tasty results.

Octoberfest German Potato Salad

Reviewed: May 21, 2010
My new favorite potato salad! It's wonderfully tangy, and the onion really makes it so flavorful. I love vinegar based salad mixes and dressings and crave them often. This potato salad really satisfies that craving.

Sweet Cornbread Cake

Reviewed: May 11, 2010
I have been searching for this recipe for over 15 years! Just as the name implies, it's a sweet, cakey cornbread. Some might consider it more of a corn-flavored yellow cake than an actual corn bread. You could even put some vanilla frosting on it, and it would be wonderful. My mother made a similar dish when I was a child. Then she lost the recipe, and I was never able to duplicate it. Every time I saw recipes for "sweet cornbread", I'd give them a try and be disappointed. Now I've finally found it! I will hold on to this one and print several copies! :) Thanks so much for posting it, myfoursonsks!

Cherry Tomatoes Filled with Goat Cheese

Delicious if you love goat cheese, but they do take time. I did as others did and mixed the goat cheese with a little cream cheese to make it smoother.

Ham Croquettes

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2010
These were a decent way to use up leftover ham, but not something I would make very often. Also, I found that they don't keep well and taste a little off if you try to reheat the next day so I would only make enough to finish eating the same day you make them. I served with mustard and dill pickle slices.

Creamy Shell Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
This review is for the dressing (as I used my own preferred vegetable and pasta medley). The only change I made to the dressing was to use half the amount of vinegar as some other reviewers suggested. This is hands down the BEST pasta salad dressing EVER!!! It's like a tangy creamy ranch vinaigrette. Don't swap the dried onion for fresh onion! Though I'm sure fresh onion would work if you wanted to use it, it would not be that same punch of concentrated onion flavor that the dried onion adds.

Very good cookie! I thought the coconut flavor was quite subtle the day of baking. They tasted even better the next day.
