Sassy Steak Marinade and Sauce

Reviewed: May 30, 2010
Really, really good! My boyfriend and I were both a little weirded out by the cocktail sauce but I was really wanting to try something different so I just went ahead with this recipe! I followed the recipe exactly except for the mushrooms as we don't like mushrooms. However, I did use onions instead and mixed that in with the boiling sauce. It came out very tasty! We used a good cut of steak and while I did like the sauce, it kind of overpowered the steak's flavor. I would recommend using the recipe for preparing a cheaper cut of steak and you would still get the same results as with a more-expensive cut since the flavor of the marinade is so strong. I will use this recipe again in the future! It would also be good to prepare the marinade and mix into a meatloaf, as well -- just an idea!

Krystal's Perfect Marinade for BBQ or Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: May 30, 2010
I really liked this! Easy marinade and if you boil the marinade afterwards it makes a great sauce. I also want to mention that I did not grill my chicken with this marinade. I baked it in the oven with some olive-oil/herb drizzled potatoes. It was really delicious and the potatoes were fabulous! I still used the marinade (reheated) as a sauce over the chicken, and I also put some on some steamed carrots, which was delicious, too! That's how I prepared this dish :)

Cream Cheese Jalapeno Hamburgers

Reviewed: May 20, 2010
Mmm mmm mmm! I loved this idea! I used fat free cream cheese (as I always do) and I don't think that I would have noticed any difference in taste! I really liked these hamburgers and will probably put them in my different-hamburger rotation ;) I also added a touch of chili powder; personal preference as I love chili flavor! I didn't need anything else on the hamburger except for lettuce and tomato!

Simple Turkey Chili

Reviewed: May 18, 2010
I LOVE turkey chili, and this recipe is definitely simple! Turkey is such a great alternative to beef in recipes. This recipe is good, but I add no salt, I don't mash the beans, and I usually sprinkle a little more chili powder on my serving (personal preference -- I like chili flavor)

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
I loved loved LOVED this recipe! I searched for a while to look for authentic carbonara recipes and the only difference between this and others was the use of proscuitto instead of bacon. However, I used this particular recipe because I knew bacon would go over better in my house. My boyfriend was a little skeptical of this dish while he watched me prepare it (the whole raw-egg thing) but when I served it he absolutely loved it! I loved it as well. I will definitely make this again! I followed the recipe exactly but didn't use the white wine because I had none.

Sooooooo good! I used the recipe to a "T". I will definitely use this again, my boyfriend and I both really liked it! This marinade would be great for chicken, too.

Balsamic Glazed Carrots

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2010
I loved these, but my boyfriend thought they "tasted weird." He doesn't really like balsamic though, and I didn't tell him that it was in the recipe :P So I guess he unknowingly kinda picked it out. Anyways, I steamed the carrots shortly before sauteeing them, and used a touch more brown sugar (because, as I mentioned, b/f doesn't like balsamic). I personally really enjoyed these and would make them again had my b/f liked them.

Corn and Chicken Chowder

This is really easy to whip up. To make it even quicker, I use instant potato flakes to make a thicker soup. I've made this twice now and have always been satisfied; its not too complicated!

Mexican Strawberry Water (Agua de Fresa)

Followed the recipe exactly and it was just what I was looking for! I love this stuff. I can't wait to make it again! Good with a splash of club soda, too, if you want it a little fizzy.

Fluffy Hot Chocolate

This was so easy to make and I LOVED it! I used a bit more cocoa to taste, but other than that I followed the recipe exactly. This hot chocolate was really tasty and I will definitely use this recipe again.

Jimmy's Mexican Pizza

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2010
I had this meal on the table in 45 minutes, which is always nice! It came out really good and I used chicken instead of beef. My pizza ended up tasting mostly like enchiladas, but I didn't mind! Plenty of leftovers and it was easy to make. Next time I make this, I may put tortilla chip crumbles on before the cheese to make it crunchy.

Easy Chicken Alfredo II

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2010
This stuff was okay, pretty bland. With a few modifications it could be good, but if you're looking for a real, creamy alfredo, don't try this. This is good either for a quick dinner or using low-fat alternatives. I ended up using more pepper, some italian seasoning, and some fresh parsley on the top for flavor.

Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2010
Delicious, though not as fluffy as I expected. I also mistakenly use 2/3 cup whipping cream instead of 1/2, so maybe this was the problem, I'm not sure. Overall, very good and I will probably make this again. I also used 3 baker's chocolate squares and it gave it a perfect darker-chocolate flavor.

Beer Batter Fish Made Great

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
I never knew it could be this easy! I didn't use a deep fryer, just a saute pan with oil to cover. They came out so great! I used Old Bay instead of paprika, used no salt, and Pyramid Hefeweizen for the beer. Delicious, will make again!

Detroit Hot Honey Wings

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
Delicious and the recipe is perfect! However I used Lawry's instead of regular salt, that's the only change I made! I didn't use Frank's, but Cholula hot sauce and they came out really great! My boyfriend loved them too and even said he liked them better than Buffalo wings; they had more flavor. I will definitely make this again, you could use the sauce for a number of different things! Also, I brushed the wings with a touch of oil before grilling because one reviewer had said their wings had come out a little dry, and I didn't baste with honey until towards the end and wished that I hadn't because it just kind of burned onto the wings. But still, very good recipe and I'm really really glad I tried them! **Made this again without basting with honey; turns out the sauce doesn't stick to the wings as well! Next time I will baste them as I did the first time - toward the end of grilling.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
This recipe needs a few changes. I mix and match with a recipe from one of my cookbooks. I think this recipe has too much sugar and oil. You can do with about half, especially if you're health-conscious.

'Calabacitas Guisada' (Stewed Mexican Zucchini)

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2009
Loved, loved, loved this!! I didn't need the cheese -- I liked it as-is! I didn't use stewed tomatoes, but fresh tomatoes and added enough chicken broth to just cover the bottom of my 10-inch skillet (I will use just a little less next time, though). I also added frozen roasted corn (as corn was suggested by the top review). I also used olive oil instead of vegetable oil. This is now one of my favorite ways to eat zucchini! I will definitely make this again, I could eat it alone for dinner!

Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2009
Very good, and I made it even easier! I used brown Ready Rice and just a touch of chicken broth instead of vegetable broth. It made this dish ready in about 5-8 minutes! I also added a couple tablespoons of tomato sauce, to make the rice taste more like Mexican-style rice. I will make this again! I loved it.
