About this Cook
I'm married to a wonderful guy, have been for 41 years. We live in our small town, where my husband runs a plumbing and HVAC business. We have 3 grown kids and 7 grandkids, all of whom live at least 2 hours away. We love the theater, go out of town a lot for various presentations, and we love to travel, are recently back from two weeks in Ireland. I am a "retired" nurse; actually I didn't exactly retire, just burned out and became a stay-at-home wife and at the time, mom. It's a good life.
My favorite things to cook
There are too many to choose just a few. I hate frying.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving dinner is our big annual cooking fest. We cook the usual, and that is the only meal of the year that I prepare without regard to the HEAVINESS of it. There aren't many actual traditions because we try new things so often. My kids all cook and cook well, and of that, I am proud!
My cooking triumphs
?? One of my favorite things in the world is lemon meringue pie. A couple of years ago, I got an issue of Bon Appetit with a lemon meringue pie with a hazelnut crust. I decided to try it. That pie took a whole day of mixing, chopping, chilling, rolling, baking, etc., but it was worth it! It was gorgeous and as good as it looked. I brought half to the neighbors to keep from eating it all ourselves.
My cooking tragedies
What is life without tragedy? I've had many. One that comes to mind was the Thanksgiving that I used self-rising flour in the pumpkin pie crust. I never buy self-rising flour. It was a salty mess. Everyone makes mistakes and I've made my share. Just have to get over it!

Grilled Halibut with Cilantro Garlic Butter
This halibut recipe is delicious. Add the ease of preparation, the short time it takes to prepare, and you can file it under "Winners." It was worth the risk of the expensive halibut to try this new dish. The flavor of the cilantro and lime paired perfectly with the fish; I am going to use the "sauce" with shrimp next time I make my beer-steamed shrimp recipe, will use it for the dipping sauce. Jan
