Quick and Easy Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2012
I doubled the veggies and chicken (I had some I needed to use up) and I also tried cooking the chicken with vegetables, as suggested in other reviews, but otherwise I followed the recipe exactly. It is a delicious and very healthy soup, but personally I find it to be a tiny bit bland. I think next time I make it I will use a decent amount of poultry seasoning on the chicken, and also use more minced garlic. It will be perfect for my lunches for the week though!

Apple-Cinnamon Syrup

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2012
Perfect. Exactly what I was aiming for. I ate them on their own as a delicious and fairly healthy dessert, when I found myself with several leftover Granny Smith applies that did not fit in the pie they were intended to belong to :).

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
Beautiful, delicious, relatively easy - I cannot wait to make this again. Used shredded mozzarella because it was cheaper, but next time I will try slices to see how that changes the feel of it.

King Crab Appetizers

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
These were phenomenal, and so easy to make! I even accidentally bought the wrong kind of crab, and they still tasted good (meant to get "lump", but got the plain Starkist "white crab" flakey stuff instead). Next time I will get the correct kind of crab, and maybe try adding a little lemon juice. I was also pretty heavy-handed with the cheese and green onions, and would repeat that choice ;). These were easy, delicious and seemed super-fancy. Will definitely make again!

Homemade Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2011
This was a little boring, but definitely a great base recipe for vegetable soup. Next time I think I would throw in some meat or corn, and some additional seasoning. I don't think I like green beans in soup either, so I'll omit them next time.

Herb Roasted Pork Loin and Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2010
This was a great basic way to cook a pork roast, thank you! I omitted the thyme & chives because I didn't have any, but I added some Garlic & Onion sprinkle-seasoning of my own to both the roast and the potatoes and they turned out great! Only thing I would do different next time is to only have the potatoes in with the roast for the last 30 minutes. Maybe my roast was just taking forever, but by the time it was up to temp., the potatoes were way overdone.

Baked Salmon II

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
Meh. It doesn't taste bad, but it doesn't taste that good either. I honestly can't tell much of a difference from if I had just cooked the salmon on its own (with no seasoning). Won't be using this again.

Blueberry Streusel Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
Delicious! I accidentally forgot about the streusel topping, but they were just fine without it. I can't wait to use this recipe with other kinds of berries too. It will be my official muffin recipe for forever now! :D

Rum Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
This was great! I didn't have any rum so I substituted 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, and I followed reviewers' suggestions about using half & half in place of milk. Went awesome with the banana bread-bread pudding I made for an XMas gathering.

Rhubarb Custard Pie II

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2010
AMAZING! This is going to be my new staple for using up rhubarb! My grandparents' have a huge crop of it each summer, so I end up with a lot in my freezer. I didn't make any changes to the recipe, except for realizing that I didn't have quite 4 cups of rhubarb (so I just only used about 2/3 of my wet mixture). I poured it over the rhubarb in the pie crust, but then I did gently stir it around so that I knew it was all even. Absolutely fantastic, didn't even need ice cream.

Mom's Stovetop Pork Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2010
I wasn't 100% thrilled with the taste of the end product, but I like the method and the way it kind of thickened & browned the meat. Will try again perhaps with different seasonings than soy sauce & garlic.

Hummus III

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2010
I usually hate reviews that aren't of the recipe exactly as written - but I didn't want to buy an $8 jar of Tahini, so I changed one thing - upped the olive oil to about 1/4 cup in place of the Tahini. I also added in some freshly roasted red peppers (broil, skin side up, for 10 minutes - plop in plastic bag to cool - peel skin off, super easy), and it is delicious! I'm so excited to share this with my hummus-lovin' friend. Thank you for the recipe! Even though I changed it! I'm a poor college student, I have no need for a jar of Tahini lol.

Special Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2010
This was perfect! I'm a long-time lover of EATING deviled eggs, but this was the 1st time I've ever made them - and this will easily be my forever-recipe for them. Absolutely perfect ratio of pickleyness and mustardishness and horseradishyness. Thank you!

Easy Herb Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
This was my 1st-ever turkey & it turned out really great!!! The white meat was a tiny bit dry, but that was completely my fault - got preoccupied with some finicky sweet potatoes and left it in the oven sans foil for longer than I'd intended. I did follow other reviews by removing the foil (don't have a lid) for the last 30-45 minutes of cooking, using chicken broth instead of water, stuffing with onions/minced garlic, and sprinkling generously with paprika for extra color. This will be my base turkey recipe for years to come!!! Only thing I'd do differently next time would be not leaving it in too long, and using less oil & more herbs in the rub mix. Yum!!!

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
This was my first-ever attempt at homemade stuffing and it turned out perfectly! My only changes were using sage sausage (I'm not crazy about turkey-sausage) and adding more bread and stock - for a moister taste. I cooked it separate from the turkey as well. Only changes I would make for next time would be to double the recipe & add more bread (probably throw in some sourdough too). This was a huge hit at my family's Thanksgiving, & will be my staple for many more to come!!!

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2009
This is such a great basic recipe, and mine turned out so yummy that I couldn't stop myself from getting just one more piece:). I threw in some diced ham & used about half of an 8 oz. bag of shredded cheddar cheese & it was delicious! Next time I think I'll try adding diced tomatoes.

Best Steak Marinade in Existence

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2009
This was really great!!! I followed the recipe with the one exception of adding a little more Worcestershire. I think next time I will actually up the soy sauce instead! I used low-sodium soy so it wouldn't get too salty, but that was the best flavor in the meat. With this marinade, we can afford to get cheap steaks and therefore eat steak MORE OFTEN!!! For that, I thank you :D.

Baked Potato Skins

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
This was great, and so easy! I used butter instead of oil, and mashed the insides a little & put them back in (for more of a twice-baked-potato feel). I also used bacon pieces out of a bag and they turned out great. I will make this again & again. Thank you for the recipe!!!

Pico De Gallo

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
I must have done something wrong, because mine turned out pretty yucky. I will try this again sometime, perhaps I misread an ingredient. I ended up making my botched pico de gallo a layer in a baked bean dip instead, which was perfect:).

Bavarian Apple Torte

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2009
This was good, but the proportions were all wrong. I would make it again but with half the crust and twice the filling. The overabundance of crust just made the whole thing feel dry. I can't wait to try it again though & figure out how to make it work:).
