My husband and I and our two dogs are leaving Saturday early to travel to the great state of Michigan. We will be camping for two weeks in various campgrounds around the state. We have a pop-up tent trailer which is very roomy, but camping is all about spending time outdoors. If anyone has recommendations about interesting sights to see, or tasty camping recipes; just give me a shout out!

I am going to try some meals in foil packets over an open fire, and I am hunting for a non-traditional recipe for s'mores. I think I am going to try several AR recipes.

Campfire veggies

My mouth is watering already and we haven't even left.

More from the road!!

Hello from Michigan. I hope the pop up has AC, as we're experiencing the hotest weather I can remember in a long time. But either way you'll have a great time. We're big fans of camping and cooking over the campfire. The kids have come up with their own recipe for smores using our pie makers that has been a big hit with everyone we camp with. We take the pie makers and place a slice of bread in each side, then place a marshmallow, half a graham cracker & chocolate on one side. Close up the pie maker & place in campfire coals for a couple of minutes. Time will depend on the amount of coals. Don't forget to spray the pie maker with nonstick spray before assembly. It's not gormet but then again it's a smore &e camping. We'be used the pie makers to make ham & cheese sandwiches, ruebans, pizza pockets, Apple/cherry pies..

Thanks for chhosing Michigan! I do echo Jennimars weather advice, though. I suggest you follw th Lake Michigan Shoreline. There is an incredible variety of cities, natural sights, wineries and a huge amusement park near Muskegon. Eventually you'll wind up at Big Mac (the bridge over the staights) and you can cross or continue following the Lower Penninsula shoreline. This site lists cities as links to campground nearby. ... http://www.rvtoads.com/rvparks/michigan.html ... Do you have a travel plan or going on whatever happens?

About Me
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake, especially during the fall and winter when it is cool outside. I am always looking for scone recipes. I live in apple country so I also like apple recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My son, who loves to cook, and I like to cook Thanksgiving Dinner together. My son is always trying to invent something wild and crazy. His recipes are usually pretty tasty.
My cooking triumphs
Two of my recipes seem to be in demand where ever I take them. Corn Casserole and Sour Cream Apple Pie.
My cooking tragedies
Well, this may or may not be such a tragedy. I use to use Pillsbury pie crust dough for all my pies. . I know very lazy of me. However, in the last six months I have been very disappointed in the Pillsbury pie dough. I haven't been able to unroll it and end up re-rolling it. Doesn't save me any time, so I am back to making my own pie dough, using canola oil instead of Crisco. I am glad I switched.
