Black-Eyed Pea Gumbo

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2013
This recipe was good. Spouse and kids ate it but weren't too excited. Perhaps it is because we just don't love black-eyed peas enough! I will try making it again, although I think adding some fresh corn will add a little sweetness and crunch, and my husband said he thought I should sub some of the black-eyed peas with black beans.

Texas Caviar with Avocado

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2010
I made this last night for my husband and myself, and we could not get enough. It is DELICIOUS! I have made similar salads but this one was unique with the black-eyed peas and the avocado. The only variations I made were to use one can black-eyed peas and one of black beans (as the recipe submitter mentioned in their review), and we added some fresh cilantro (about 1/2 c) as another reviewer suggested b/c we are big cilantro fans.

Wonderfully good! We also love it on baked or grilled chicken breasts.

Savory Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
I don't like dill so didn't have any, but these deviled eggs were delicious even without it. I always use this recipe now (minus the dill weed).

Arkansas Green Beans

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
We didn't like these green beans much and I was disappointed. I think it was too much soy sauce for our tastes, so I may try to tweak it and make again. If you don't love soy sauce, this may not be for you.

Good and very, very easy. My whole family likes salsa so this went over well and we will definitely have it again.

Spicy Black Bean Potato Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
Really, good potato salad. I love that it is a little different from traditional potato salad, especially the spicy kick. We will make this again.

Black Bean and Couscous Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
This is probably the best AllRecipe I have discovered so far. My husband and I are addicted to this salad! We have already made it several times and just love, love, love it. The dressing is so, so good--we do double it as several other reviewers recommended. Other than that, don't change a thing.

Grilled Chicken Salad with Seasonal Fruit

Very good salad! My husband and I both really liked it. We used strawberries and it was delicious. We love having some variety in our salads.

Wild Rice with Rosemary and Cashew Stuffing

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
Really, really good and healthy, too. We loved this especially because we love cashews. I didn't use rosemary (didn't have any) so I subbed thyme. The kids were initially skeptical of the wild rice, but ended up eating all of it. Will use as a regular side dish at our house.

My husband and I really liked this salad. Next time I make it I will add some green onions and use a little less olives.

Baked Bar-be-Que Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2010
I was disappointed, but this chicken was not very good. I used chicken breasts and it just turned out really bland.

Mexican Bean Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2010
I made this according to the recipe except I used only 1/2 of a small white onion (what I had on hand). The salad was okay, but I will only make it again with changes. As many other reviewers mentioned, there is a lot of dressing. Even if you are making it for the first time I would definitely half the amount of dressing. Further, I will probably try substituting the dressing altogether--it was too vinegary for me. I really love the dressing on the "Black Bean and Couscous Salad" from this site, so I may try using that dressing instead. Also, I will continue to use only 1/2 an onion (more kid-friendly that way), and I would increase the cilantro b/c we love cilantro. Last, as other reviewers stated, it is tastier the second and third day after the flavors have had time to meld.

Baked Slow Cooker Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2010
I tried this recipe using potato, carrots and onion on the bottom of the crock pot instead of the foil, and I poured 1 c chicken broth in the bottom as well. It turned out good, very tender. However, I prefer using a roasting pan in the oven to this crock pot method. The crock pot method ended up with icky-looking chicken skin, whereas the skin turns out crispy and golden in the oven. Unless you need to use the crock pot for convenience b/c you'll be out of the house, I recommend your oven. The roasting pan in the oven also allows me to include enough veggies for my family of 5.

Green Onion Dip I

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2010
I made this according to the recipe and it was really good. I will probably make it again with a couple of tweaks next time. One, I used a large clove of garlic and my husband and I agreed that it was too much garlic, so next time I'll use less. Also, I agree with other reviewers re doubling the green onions; I'll do that next time. Last comment, I really liked the consistency of the dip with the mayo/sour cream mixture as opposed to adding cream cheese. It was just right for not breaking chips!

Zucchini and Potato Bake

This was ok. We may try it again, but it was a little too bland for our tastes, so I would jazz it up a little.

Caramel Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
This sounded tasty, but it wasn't for us. We did not care for the seasoning mix--too much nutmeg, didn't like the pepper. (Made exactly according to recipe.) I, nor my children, liked it.
