About this Cook
I strive to be good at anything I do. I don't like to be a failure at anything. Though I have become better at the things that I have failed on. "A woman's work is never done." I'm most thankful for salvation and for God allowing me to be a mom. I love being a mom, my son has been a gift from God to keep me going and I'm thankful for that. I cooked very little with my mom growing up so I started pretty much on my own. It takes patience to allow someone in your kitchen to work with or without you. The Lord has taught me patience in many ways as well as my son. Too many things are rushed as it is and I try to take in all that I can. I love to eat so I like to cook and try new foods.
My favorite things to cook
Soups, 1 dish meals, crock pot meals, Italian Meals, Mexican dishes, anything cheesy, cakes, cheese pies and cakes, desserts with cream cheese.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Deviled Eggs, Caramel apple cake, old fashioned apple stack cake, sour cream coconut cake, cobbler, cherry cheese pie.
My cooking triumphs
Breakfast gravy, chocolate gravy (with the help of all recipes), cheesecakes, sweet potato casserole.
My cooking tragedies
Luckily not too many. One was so simple but horrible - canned squash cooked for dinner was so nasty. It turned out looking like snot. Have gotten some cakes too dark on the outside...slightly burned? after putting all the work into having made them from scratch

Potato and Onion Soup
This soup was someone else mentioned I'm not sure what happened to others who attempted this one but it was great for me..I left out the leeks because I didn't have any and threw in a chunk of smoked sausage...I definitely didn't make enough myself, my husband and my 2 yr old devoured all of this.:) Thanks for the recipe! (Potato Soup is one of my favorite soups)

Jan's Chocolate Cake
I made this using coffee instead of water and it was awesome. I have made it a few times and every time I make it, I try to let folks try it if there's any left. Have had only great compliments about it.

Southwestern Black Bean Stew
Wow! This was great! I used a can of tomato soup and a can of italian seasoned tomato (drained) in place of the tomato paste and water. Added a couple of dashes of chili powder. It was great. I also tried this with shredded chicken and a can of green enchilada sauce where I normally used the tomato soup. We added our sour cream afterwards. This was great poured over crumbled up cheesy cornbread. Might I add we ate it about 6 or ate times in just a few weeks.
