About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking everything. I really like experimenting with "foreign" cousines. The African Peanut soup is delicious. Who would have thought peanuts in soup?
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was 6 my mother bought me a "Garfield" childrens cook book. I was so proud of my "Nermal" strips. Everyone loved them, and I made them all the time. (a piece of toast with butter, cinnamin and sugar) You can't beat that!
My cooking triumphs
Any time I make a dish from scratch that I love. Not only do I have the satisfaction of knowing that I made something tasty, I also know what was put in the ingredients, and the health content of what I made. I love the satisfaction of knowing my meal is better tasting, more nutritious and that I paid much less than what the average person pays for that nutrient deprived take out meal that so many people rely on for a daily basis.
My cooking tragedies
Oh wow, tons! I once submitted chilli to my works chilli cookoff. I got last place! I once made two loaves of bread; one for me and one for my neighbor. I gave my neighbor lady one loaf and later that day I cut into my bread and it was doughy, under cooked and just plain awful! Lesson learned - ALWAYS sample before you give something away. yikes!

Pork Stew in Green Salsa (Guisado de Puerco con Tomatillos)
I made this for supper and was hesitant too, because my husband told me when we were dating that he strongly disliked Mexican food (I happen to love it). When I made it, he never said a word during dinner, which is odd for him. At the end of his bowl, he said "wow, I could actually live in Mexico, that was so good!" and I replied back "I was worried you didn't like it because you were so quiet." He responded back with "Well, yeah, if I started talking I would have to quit eating!" So, yeah, I would say this recipe is a success!

Best Spanish Rice
Very good, I did find that I needed to add water part of the way through because mine became dry. Other than that, it was left the same!

Cucumber Sandwich
This was very simple and a tasty way of using my surplus of cucumbers in the garden.
