I followed numerous suggestions and added an additional 1 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. I hate reviews that change the recipe, but for me, the recipe was still "meh." A little bland, a little cakey, which leads me to believe that, made as posted, these cookies would be a lot bland. However, I had no problems with the dough. I chilled it overnight in 4 flattened parcels to avoid unnecessary rolling and handling. I dusted my pastry cloth with powdered sugar instead of flour, and the cookies cut well, baked well and frosted well. My kids cut out the cookies - always an adventure - and made humongous jack-o-lanterns with no issues, even when transferring to the cookie sheet. Of course, they did puff up quite a bit when cooking. The kids seem to like them, but not enough to make them again unless I need a go-to recipe that will hold up as cookie pops or the like.
