I am an executive officer for a nonprofit agency which serves children and adults with developmental disabilities. I am married to a jeweler and we have two grown daughters. I have two sisters who, like me, love to cook and are wonderful cooks. We discovered our family receipes are more traditionally southern in origin and we all enjoy geneology.
My favorite things to cook
Soups, stews, and gourmet foods are my favorite to prepare when I have time. I like to prepare warm winter oven dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our traditions are so ingrained, I wasn't even aware of many of them until my husband's family mentions things like, where is that silver bowl you always serve that salad in... it just not the same. We prepare nearly everything from scratch and my youngest sister refuses to call a holiday meal a holiday if someone brings a frozen pie or a pre-made pie crust.
My cooking triumphs
I prepared a beef bourgandy which is now my mother's favorite. She requests this for her birthday dinner each year. I also have been successful at preparing meals for large crowds having been asked to cater some events for family and friends. These have been complete with salad, main course, sides, and dessert...a great deal of fun.
My cooking tragedies
I have been know to add too much salt in my zeal to ensure things are properly seasoned...not a good trait. Also not something one can fix.
