About this Cook
I'm as domestic as I will ever be right now. I'm the only girl in a house full of boys. I plot trickery, strategically placing veggies where no son can find them and grin as they shovel the spoonfuls into there little mouths and ask for seconds. It's the battles, in which my kids don't know that they have lost, that I enjoy the most.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking cajun foods the most, it reminds me of my childhood on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and of watching Justin Wilson cook on PBS... "Mmm, mmm, I gar-on-tee." I also love making key lime pie, it's therapeutic juicing all those limes, I get in the zone and then get a yummy reward.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving holds most of our traditional cooking. My boys love helping me stuff the Thanksgiving turkey with apples. We also pick up pecans and crack them together and make new recipes every fall with them.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I try a 'new something' (ginger, lamb, making my own dressing, stuffed grape leaves) and I hear a yum... I glow.
My cooking tragedies
Sauteeing spices that ought not be sauteed inside and crying till the air cleared. Also, I don't do my own bread.

No Roll Pie Crust I
I've used this several times and am just getting around to rating it. I love this recipe, it's perfect and flaky for a last minute crust. The peanut oil is a must. I'm wondering how it will work with some rolled oats in the mixture.

Pesto Tuna Salad with Sun-Dried Tomatoes
Super yummy! I wanted to try this recipe badly, but didn't have pesto or basil around the house. I did have a bunch of cilantro and pine nuts, so I made up a batch of cilantro pesto. I also didn't have sun-dried tomatoes in oil, so I took my dry ones and chopped them in the food processor along with the pesto and added a bit more evoo to moisten them up. Last night I made some chipotle mayo dip for tostones, so I added that in place of the regular mayo and put in a couple of fire roasted red peppers to the tuna mix. I wish I had an avocado to top with the filling, but I'm eating it with pasta this time. YUMM! This is a winner!! Will definitely make again.

Real N'awlins Muffuletta
I haven't made the sandwiches yet, we will have them for dinner. But I'm rating the olive salad. I absolutely love it! I snuck a taste after mixing the ingredients and this olive salad is as close to Central Grocery's as you can get. I used a couple of jars of mixed pitted olives (kalamata, green and prune,) I grated the carrot and diced the pepperocini's, I wasn't sure what I was supose to do with the coctail onions by the recipe, so I put them in whole just to marinate the flavors, I won't put them on the sadwiches though. I also left out the canola and added a little more olive oil. Also, since the olives I used weren't stuffed with pimento's I added some separately to the mix. I used celery salt instead of celery seed since I didn't have any on hand. It makes a lot, so I'll be giving my sister a jar to take home. I never buy the jarred varieties of olive salad, because they just don't compare to what I expect. My sister and I were just talking about how much we missed the olive salad from the Central Grocery; this is a winner!
