Christmas Turtle Candies

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
I had a time with these to the point I just wanted to trash it all, but I didn't. Here's what I did: I melted a bag of Kraft Traditional Caramels with about 2 or 3 tbsp of milk. I filled a big pan with water and heated it and then used a smaller pan to sit in the water to melt the caramels. Like a double boiler. I then added crushed pecans and mixed. I dropped spoonfuls of the mixture on a baking sheet with wax paper. This was a no no because the caramel stuck to the wax. It took FOREVER to peel the stuff off. I did chill it first but it didn't help. After I finally got them off I dipped them in chocolate and stuck them in the refrigerator. I got them out the next morning and they were like chocolate covered bricks!! BUT I let them sit out for maybe ten minutes or so and they were fine. Nice and chewy and easy to bit. All in all I guess it was worth it because they were good but find something better to spoon them out on. Good Luck!

Candy Cane Cookies III

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2008
They look very festive but taste horrible. I felt like I was eating a biscuit. I think if you double the peppermint extract that would take care of the problem. 1/2 tsp is not enough at all.

Buckeye Balls II

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
They are really good!! I covered the whole thing with chocolate and only used 3 cups unsifted sugar. I also used about 10 ounces of chocolate instead of 6. I had to dip half and then put them back in the refrigerator and let them get cold again and then do the other half. Took some time but hey, that's part of it :)

These were okay but I've had better. They kept their shape well, but the taste was lacking.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2008
These were soooo good!!! I debated on this recipe and another one from this site and this one is by far better. They had such a great taste. I made mine bigger than the recipe calls for so I had to bake a bit longer. I took them out when they were barely browned at all. They were chewy and great! I would pick this recipe over all the other ones.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
It was pretty good but the cake had so much icing that it was hard to taste the cake. I used the small chocolate chips and they melted in the cake and made it moist. I would recommend the small chips

Autumn Cheesecake

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2008
It does taste great but the apples on top seem very chewy, so much that it's hard to eat them. Next time I think I'll bake them in the cheesecake or maybe chop them up a little kind like applesauce and use that mixed with the other ingredients on top.

Mrs. Sigg's Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2008
A great recipe!! I put about a half cup extra pumpkin puree to get a true pumpkin taste. I like to taste the pumpkin over the spices. I also baked the pumpkin at 400 degrees for about 50 minutes. The pumpkin I grew were bigger so the higher temp helped cooked it better.

Rempel Family Meatloaf

This was okay but not overly impressive. I think I'm so use to my mom's that all the other meatloafs don't taste right to me. All in all it was pretty good.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2008
This was way too sweet for me. I could barely eat it due to the sweetness. If you like sweet cornbread, you'll love this but I was raised on more southern type cornbread.

Best No-Bake Cheesecake

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2008
It was pretty good, but not fabulous. I didn't put any topping on it, so maybe that would have made it even better. I also left out the lemon and added key lime juice. I love stuff tart. I think I should have put more in though. As for the texture, it was perfect. Just how a no bake cheesecake should be. Over all, it was what I was looking for so I'm happy :)

Chocolate Cookie Cheesecake

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2008
I made this for my sister and although I have no idea what it ended up tasting like, she said it was great. I give it five stars for that reason. I had trouble getting the sour cream layer on because there just wasn't any room and most of it ended up going to the center. I would recommend a 10 inch springform (I used a 9) and maybe cut the sour cream mixer in half. Also, I used chocolate Teddy Grahams for the crust and in the cake itself.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2008
Great cheesecake! I made this last night and followed the recipe exactly except I left out the vanilla and added a third cup of key lime juice and it was SO GOOD! I think I may have over mixed it because I did get a crack in the middle but it still tasted great. I also didn't use the water bath because it was my first time making a cheesecake and I wanted to make one without it to see if maybe, just maybe, I didn't need it...guess I do though, lol. I left it in the oven for five hours and then stuck it in the refrigerator and it was great. Looked good too except for the crack. Next time I'll add more key lime juice for more tang. Great recipe!! ----------------UPDATE------------------------ I've made this so many time and finally got it to where it doesn't crack and get brown. I bake it at 325 for 15 minutes and then at 250 for 15 minutes and then at 225 for 15 and then 200 for 2 hours and 50 minutes and finally 250 for 10 minutes. I know this sounds insane but it turned out so beautiful. I found a recipe online and that is how they baked it so I decided to try it and IT WORKED!!!!! Hope this helps someone. I have also heard you can bake them at 200 degrees for around 3 hours. Haven't tried that though.

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2008
The taste was great, but the cake itself was so heavy and the longer it sat the worse it got. I have Kitchen Aid mixer and I mixed this for quite some time. My batter looked like yellowish "cool whip" like some suggested it should, but it still turned out horrible.
