Garlic Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2012
AMAZING! I am not a fan of brussel sprouts, and I could not get enough of these. I just used regular chicken broth and didn't add additional salt. I also followed one recommendation and sliced them in half. Couldn't get much better!

Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies II

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2012
I'm not sure what happened, but I doubled the recipe and there was no where near enough liquid. I doubled the cream, and the dough was decent to work with, but the cookies tasted awful. Way too much salt I think? Perhaps the recipe should say unsalted butter or use salted butter and no additional salt? Either way, a waste of time and ingredients and a big mess to clean up for cookies no one would eat.

Cauliflower Cheese Soup II

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2011
I cooked down a ham bone with some chicken stock instead of plain water. I think this gave the soup way more flavor. I only used about half of the velveeta, and it was plenty. Also added a little garlic pepper and salt, because I add that to everything. Very easy and delicious.

Grandma's Pear Preserves

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2011
Wonderful! I used half low-sugar pectin, half regular pectin and cut the white sugar to 4 cups. I only used 1/2 a tsp of allspice and nutmeg and added a few dashes of cinnamon. My kids LOVED this. Each batch made 7 half pint jars for me.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

I get requests for these all the time. Well worth the time and effort for special occasions. I like them best with chocolate cake, but both are delicious.

Tomato Bisque III

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2011
I loved this, but my kids were not fans. The only thing I did differently was to add a little can of tomato sauce since I did not have the tomato paste. I did not add the sugar, since the sauce has some in it. Perfect with a grilled cheese, and very easy.

Savory Pumpkin Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2011
I thought this was pretty great, but my kids were not impressed. I sauteed the onion with some garlic in the butter first, and I think this really made the dish. In fact, I will add more garlic next time. Skinning the pumpkin is a pain, and my friend who is a chef said to try cooking it right in the pumpkin halved. I may try that next time.

Excellent and so easy! I used basil instead of parsley and canned diced tomatoes, and added some baby bella mushrooms. Dinner was ready in less than half an hour to rave reviews!

Hawaiian Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2011
Wonderful! The only thing I changed was to make two bags of marinade, one for the chicken and one for the pineapple and veggies, and I added the pineapple juice from the can of fruit to each of the marinades, just because it seemed to be a waste not to use it. Wonderful with onions and sweet peppers on the skewers. Simple too!

Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake

Reviewed: May 19, 2011
This cake is delicious, but the batter is very thick and hard to work with. In the batter I substitute half white sugar and half brown sugar and use brown sugar and a bit of butter with the chocolate chips . You just kind of have to smear the batter over the top as best you can, it's not pretty, But crumble more topping on, and you can't tell. Using the brown sugar gives it much more of a gooey chocolate chip cookie taste in a cake!

Best Toffee Ever - Super Easy

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
I would not say super easy since it took me three batches before I had success, and the butter still separated. I used a cast iron skillet and rarely stirred once it boiled, when I stirred constantly it did not work. I am still searching for a better recipe.

Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2010
Strange. Not bad, but a different kind of cake. The batter looked bubbly, even when finished baking. The cake was moist and had good flavor, but a different texture than we are used to.

Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies in a Jar

Edible and workable, but not fantastic. They were very puffy and distorted, but worked for simple hearts. An ok flavor, but I will keep looking.

Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2010
This is an excellent idea, but needs work. They are definetely better the next day. The cream cheese mixture was too eggy, and needed more sugar and maybe a bit of vanilla. It would also help to have a little more cookie dough, I ran short on the top. I did have to cook mine for a full 60 minutes, but they cooked evenly in my stone. These are worth trying again with some modifications.
